Couldn't read this with a straight face.. I mean, you talk like it's not a well known fact?
Pretty sure that Dimps is the most competent company to create a new Street Fighter game right now (considering how much time they spent with SF4), and I'm pretty sure that their salary isn't low either
They're not just whipping another street fighter game together. It's a very carefully planned and designed game and the reception has been very positive so far, even from the most deep 3rd strike elitists for fuck's sake. I know that you don't even know/care nor follow the news and interviews regarding the game and it shows.

Gah. this is too much Arc Sys.. I can't keep up. Did CP-extend even come out in PAL regions??

It feels like I'd have to dedicate my life to blazblue competition to get enjoyment out of new releases each time.

Their new game will dispense with character animation entirely in favour of constant full screen flashy animations.

It makes me sad that there seemed to be such a low interest in ST this year, it's always the game that I'm looking forward to the most. Nuki managed to put on a hell of a clinic this year in the singles tournament! Looks like the team tournament right now (2pm PST) is not even being streamed nor the Kusumondo event after it :(

Anyways, lots of really good SFIV matches this year! It seems to me like there are more and more international players every year.

Pretty great. The $10/$15 DLC updates they were doing with SF4 were already a great value. The only thing that would be better than this for the playerbase is if they went full F2P (with a good model obviously, eg. Dota 2).

Sounds like "incomplete game with free content" to me.

In fairness, a "competitive" fighting game can't really be "complete" until the community has gotten ahold of it and put it through its paces (assuming that the developers have the resources to implement and improve things from there); if the unlocking criteria for the "gameplay-related" material is reasonable and the only real-money transactions taking place beyond the initial purchase are for costumes and stuff like that, it doesn't sound like a bad system for customers, at least off the cuff. Naturally we'll have to see exactly how it plays out, but it certainly comes off as more consumer-friendly overall than what, say, Arc System has been doing.

SF4 arcade had 17 characters, SF5 is coming out with 16. I don't see how it will be incomplete in comparison to any other initial release of a fighting game.

The DOA5 EVO side tournament top 8 will be today sometime on the Madcatz stream for those interested. Despite issues with streaming yesterday there were some good matches on display.

Wasn't it the same with Street Fighter IV? As long as you had the disc you could always upgrade via the DLC?

If I'm reading this stuff right, with IV you had to fork out some money to upgrade each time (less than if you'd bought the whole thing over again, but you still paid), but with V anything "major" (new characters, etc.) they add in after launch can simply be unlocked in-game in some way, so if you play the game steadily you shouldn't have to pay for any (non-cosmetic) post-launch content. That's what it seems to be suggesting, anyways.

Not at first. Vanilla SF4 didn't support DLC, so you had to buy a new disc for the first update (Super). From there you could keep updating via DLC however ($15 for AE -> $0 for AE 2012 -> $15 for Ultra)

In addition to what BulletMagnet said, since every balance/system update will be free, you should be able to buy the game on day one and still be able to find people online to play with in 2020 or whatever without having to buy anything else. It's a good way to keep the playerbase healthy.

I've got Evo streaming with my afternoon coffee. Anyone else?

Even though I don't play them anymore I still do enjoy high level fighting games.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

I started playing Street Fighter IV when Super came out. Didn't realize the first did not support DLC updates.

Sounds like the Smash 4 approach with updates and DLC. Which is an awesome thing...

I remember playing Blazblue back in the day with a number of friends.. we started slowly shrinking when a new version came out and players would either need to fork over full price for a new game or continue to play the older installments. This really divided us to the point where we all stopped playing the game.

It was weird because they had the right idea of free balance updates and having the option of buying or playing against the DLC characters then all of a sudden give only one option to players who want to play the latest installment... which is pay full price for a new game.

Oops, I thought they were less than that.
16 chars is good, but I'm still cautious about all this "free characters and updates" thing. I think playing offline would be a pain in the ass if you need unlock all the character on different consoles/accounts.

DOA top 4 on now if you're quick.

Edit: final was amazing, loser/winner reset taken right down to the last round, multiple character changes.

there's a comment on youtube that describes well the character: Super Saiyan Maori Orochi Iori, lol

BTW, I just tried USF4 when it was free on Steam, having only played the vanilla SFIV before. Had good laughs playing casually with a friend. Not worth the price even on discount though. I will stay with my vanilla disc that I haven't played in ages.
