YPbPr to RGB SCART Options

Post by pulsemod »

hey! I've been hunting around online and found plenty of info on the best way to do the reverse, which is great for most TVs that take component but not RGB signals. but in the case of a monitor that only takes RGB and not YPbPr signals, such as the SONY PVM-2030 or PVM-2530 (as far as I know), are there any good options? as far as I know this would only be an issue for a few consoles that don't do RGB but do do YPbPr, which are… Xbox and Wii/GameCube? still something good to figure out. thanks!

There are plenty of options, the best of which is the Crescendo Systems RTC2200.

However, all those systems can be modded to output RGB. Wii only needs a soft-mod, Xbox I'm not sure, Gamecube I think requires some soldering inside the component cable (for NTSC systems). So technically you don't have to get a transcoder, it's just easier.

XBox does RGB out of the box.

On the Cube you can put a switch on the Component cable to toggle the cable's internal D/A converter between RGB and YUV output.

great info about the cube's component cable and xbox! have any links about how the soft-mod on the Wii works? I know the PAL Wii can output it natively (forgot to mention I'm NTSC), so does the mod force you to output PAL?

Yeah, you set your video mode to PAL, then you use WiiLauncher (or Gecko, there are a few different programs) to force the game to play in 60hz instead of 50hz. If the PVM 2530 isn't PAL compatible, that might make this a little more difficult, I'm not sure. Most PVM's are PAL compatible though.

EDIT: It's been a while since I've tried this, by the way, so there might be a step or two that I left out. All the info is out there though.

sweet. hopefully causing no problems with the games themselves, might as well try that out when I can. thanks!
