Scanlines on 768p panels from consoles. Can it be done?

Is there any solution at all to properly displaying emulated scanlines on a 768p panels? from consoles? I have a Samsung pn43f4500.

I guess the scanline generator would have to take 240p in, draw scanlines and output 240p. And from there the panel would do the scaling?

If you actually want to utilize all 768 lines then it's hard to achieve. You need a very good scaler to take your scanlined 480p picture (e.g. from a XRGB) and upscale it to 768p.

Using a Framemeister and it's zoom and under/overscan controls you should be able to achieve a 1:3 line mapping of 240p sources, in other words a scanlined 720p output with a few black lines on top and bottom to fill up the 768p image.

Thanks Fudoh! No I'm fine with having a small black bar on top and bottom.

Interesting about the Frame Meister. It would add lag though, right(like26ms or something)? Is there a solution that doesn't add lag?

no. A combo with a XRGB-2 or 3 and another upscaler (DVDO or so) is faster (sub 10ms), but even more expensive.

What about for actual emulators like retroarch?

Well as I found out myself recently RA lets you set custom integer scaling (both H & V independently), so you just select the most fitting multiples, and depending on the source resolution and your preference you end up with either black bars, or lines cut out.

The Kega Fusion emulator is the only one Ive seen thus far that is capable of it in full screen. It does leave thin black bars at top and bottom of screen to achieve the even scaling. Pictures on the F4500 thread. Ive yet to see anything else besides Kega Fusion, be it an emulator or external scaler, pull it off properly. Not saying its not possible, just have yet to see it.
