PC Engine Duo gear replacement

So after some investigation it turns out that the CD issues of my PC Engine Duo are most likely sourced from a broken tooth on the big white plastic gear that sits between the laser assembly and the worm screw that rocks the laser head back and forth during reads. You can see it in the above picture, partially obscured with half of it poking out, by the big motor.

I know the prospects are looking pretty grim, but any chance of anyone knowing of a possible drop in replacement for said gear?

Man that's a shitter. Gamedoctorhk sell a replacement for the Cdrom2, alas I think it's different but it may be worth looking it to.
You can also buy a hop m3a Assembly on the bay it looks like a different configuration but you may be able to get it to work.
I'd also post a message on pcengingfx forums if you haven't, a helpful bunch.

Most of the modders on PC Engine FX are a helpful bunch but the rest of the userbase consists mainly of a bunch of inbred tossers from my experience.

Fortunately the modders hang out on other forums so you don't have to go through FX to get to them.

Gamedoctorhk sell a replacement for the Cdrom2

they do ? I only see a replacement gear for the Super CD drive on their website. Otakus-store.net has a gear for the original CD-Rom², but I haven't heard any feedback yet on the quality.

I recently recalled that I've yet to do something about the faulty gear.

Would anyone by chance have access to a 3D printer who could make a replacement gear?

So, here is the gear in question. I measured it and counted the teeth on each of the two parts in hopes of finding a replacement, but no dice.

Finally I thought of maybe fixing the gear, by pulling a tooth from another gear and gluing it into the missing slot.

Alas, super glue, prooved to be scam that it has ever been in my many experiences with it. The tooth will not stick in place properly.

My last hope is to use some sort of cement to fill out the gap and then file down to reconstruct the missing tooth. Any suggestions?

Oh, and do not bother suggesting that I buy a spare HOP-M3. The few on ebay that are not just the laser by itself, but come with their own assembly are constructed differently than the one in the Duo. I cannot use any parts from that other than the laser which I already have. The assembly itself prolly won't work in a Duo either as it is clearly designed to sit in some other device.

If you have an engineer friend, maybe he can make a CAD sketch for you and you can have it 3D printed.

Super glue isn't any good for nylon - I assume this is nylon. I looked into glues for nylon a while back and I don't think there is much. I've looked at some stinky plastics glue / acetone method (acetone works for dissolving and re-constructing ABS plastic, barely) but I wouldn't trust even that with a gear tooth. Unfortunately, the small size probably won't allow melting to work, though you could try that.

3D printed nylon sounds like your best bet.
