Ok, well thanks for the info everyone!Ganelon wrote:No, definitely don't get Isuka. And I guess that's it for domestic titles.
PS2 importing only costs $30 plus expensive game costs; worth it IMO. The Rumble Fish gets old quick...waiting for the sequel to be ported, which should provide some more replay.

I don't know about PS2 importing only costing $30, though-I have a slim-line PSTwo, and even a mod has to cost more then that. I still think my best bet would be to wait for a price drop in the J-PSTwo, after the J-PS3 has been released. And, if we do end up getting more shmup ports at the end of the PS2's life-span over here, I may not import at all.

I've heard of those, but don't you have to put some tabs on the slim PS2's lid, or something like that? I'm just afraid of damaging the thing.Ganelon wrote:All you need to play imports on slim PS2s are the Swap Magic discs and those can be had for under $25 shipped. They also work on every PS2 shooter and fighter I've played.

You put little tabs on the inside of your ps2. You run no more a risk (in all likelihood, less of a chance) of damaging it than you would have modding your SNES, which you seemed all prepped to do.dave4shmups wrote:I've heard of those, but don't you have to put some tabs on the slim PS2's lid, or something like that? Leaving your memory card in is risky?Ganelon wrote:You don't need to buy a tab. Just find something to block the sensor. Less risk than leaving your memory card in your system all the time.

Sure, power surges could reach and mess with your memory card inside the system. And since any game/accessory can access the memory card, they are able to corrupt all the data on the card (or delete it, as in the case with the Underground demo). That's why Sony always includes a disclaimer on the memory card packaging that states it should always be removed from your system after play (and that you shouldn't repeatedly save into the same place or risk losing data but that's another issue).

What do you mean by blocking the sensor; just something to hold the lid open while you put one of the Swap Discs in, take it out, and put in an import game? Or does it work differently then that?Ganelon wrote:You don't need to buy a tab. Just find something to block the sensor. Less risk than leaving your memory card in your system all the time.
What version of Swap Magic are you using? v3.x?Moogs wrote:Swap Magic wouldn't run Rumble Fish for me.
And where is the best online store to get the Swap Magic Discs?

You don't have to take an SNES apart to mod it.

You don't have to open up your ps2 like that, you can just buy little tabs along with the swap magic that go in with the lid open and cover the sensors.dave4shmups wrote:Less of a risk?!:Acid King wrote:You put little tabs on the inside of your ps2. Thanks, I haven't found any place that includes the tabs.Ganelon wrote:The cheapest online source for Swap Magic that I know of is at Consolesource.com. No tabs included, though.
So, can you leave the tabs in while playing domestic games? And why are there 2 discs??

Yup, the tabs, whether bought or made, should just be left there and forgotten, just like the PS1 spring and PSone tab.
Swap Magic comes with 2 discs ebcause there's a DVD disc and CD disc, with the DVD version offering a larger TOC (Table of Contents) size for support of larger games. You really don't need to use the CD version at all except that some CD games don't seem to support the DVD disc for some reason, such as Psyvariar Complete.
