Issues with SuperCIC'd PAL SNES at 50 Hz

Post by SukkoPera »

I have just installed a SuperCIC + IGR on my SNES. I did the install myself and, to my surprise, everything worked well from the start 8). I did the job at my mother's, where I keep the most of my tools, and I was using her 26" LG LCD TV for testing (I think it's a 26LH2000), by the way: that's a good TV with decent upscaling, I'm not exactly a pixel maniac, but I didn't feel the need for an external upscaler at all. Everything was working, I could switch between 50 and 60 Hz on the fly and the TV would usually catch up with that. Some games came up with a vertically shifted screen when switching in-game, but I guess it was just the game's fault.

So I was happy with that, I packed everything up and brought it to my own place. I have a similar TV, a 32" LG LCD (32LG6000) which is just slightly older, but it doesn't work half as good as my mother's! The biggest issue is that it only works when I set the video at 60 Hz and it's terribly wobbly (horizontally). When I switch to 50 Hz the screen turns black, but the audio keeps playing, so the game is fine. This is pretty much absurd, as I live in PAL land, so 50 Hz should be more than fine, and beside that, I used to play fine with this very SNES on this very TV before the mod (using this very retrogamingcables.co.uk RGB cable too)!

I thought something might have disconnected during the moving, but I brought the SNES back to my mother's and it's working fine there! Any idea about what could be wrong?

288p incompatibility with the display seems probable....

But it was working fine before the mod! To be more precise: my SNES was originally a stock PAL SNES. The SuperCIC gives it a 60Hz option, which is working fine. It's the original 50Hz mode that is no longer working on the very same TV, but is working fine on another TV.

PS: You're the guy I bought the POP from, right? :) I still have to test it with it, will do tonight or tomorrow.

right, sorry, didn't catch that. Is there any particular reason why you need 50Hz be to working ? I don't think I've ever felt the need need to play SFC/SNES in games in 50Hz for nearly 25 years now.

Cinemateq: indeed.

Not really, except that I would just love to understand *why* 50Hz is no longer working.

That, and I think I've heard that a few games only work at their original frequency (SuperFX games, I think, haven't tested yet).
