Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I'm not using it yet - other than that having installed a recent update, which allowed Microsoft to run this notification, does look like a foreshadowing of a Googl-ization of Microsoft to come, i.e., selling your desktop for ad space. Certainly they are reserving the right to install nagware.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Speaking of Nagware, I'm sick of both legit and malicious programs asking me why I want to remove them. The worst ones are those that won't uninstall until you see a webpage or answer their survey. Makes me want they had an option that says "BECAUSE F*** YOU. THAT'S WHY."
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I get the feeling I posted this before, but it's so annoying and so ubiquitous that I'm willing to post it twice:
I fucking HATE people who, when they start losing the argument, begin prefacing their posts with a paragraph (or three) explaining that people have these things that are called "opinions" and then proceed to explain social rules revolving around them (did you know everyone has a right to their opinions???) and blah, blah, blah...
In fact what this person is doing is a pussy attempt to turn a losing argument into a stalemate.
They know they can't win, so they're trying to shift the focus away from the substance of the argument into this abstract realm of "I'm a person with an opinion and you're a person with an opinion and everyone deserves respect!" This is a sneaky attempt to undermine the winning argument because when you're talking about something as vague as "opinions," merit has no bearing. "I'm not wrong, I'm just of a different school of thought, and an enlightened society is respectful of outside ideas!"
Hand over your balls, you're obviously not using them.

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

People who are eating while talking to you on the phone.
Seriously every time that happens I feel like driving to the villain's location and make him/her eat the phone set.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
What I like to remind people is that any opinion, especially on a matter of some import, is completely worthless unless you are able to explain, in an objective, fact-based manner, why you have come to hold that particular opinion instead of another one. "Opinions" as they apply to arguments of this type are not inscrutable, mysterious feelings that nobody else could possibly understand; they are conclusions reached after a considerable amount of observation, contemplation, and research. If you are unwilling or unable to justify your "opinion" beyond the point of "it's my opinion", then you haven't put anywhere near enough thought into your position (which is a word I'd like to see replace "opinion" in a lot of these situations) on that particular subject.Mischief Maker wrote:I fucking HATE people who, when they start losing the argument, begin prefacing their posts with a paragraph (or three) explaining that people have these things that are called "opinions" and then proceed to explain social rules revolving around them (did you know everyone has a right to their opinions???) and blah, blah, blah...

i used to collect toys for a long time, so i know sometimes you got to get up early in the morning to go to the store and beat the scalpers for a rare toy. but for amiibo, i think this is the first time i've seen 7-year olds skip school, or drag their parents out of bed to drive them to target at the crack of dawn just for the small chance to buy their charizard. Or see some nutcase buy 100 rosalina figures just to spite everyone. Or watch grown men cry because their jigglypuff got crushed in the mail.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I'm always a bit loathe to comment on other collectors, as ultimately we're all kinda nuts, but the amiibo thing sounds absolutely tortuous.

Got to hand it to Nintendo, whenever they fail in one area of their business, this case being Wii U, they always fathom some dynamite backup to keep the balance rosy.
Now it's Amiibo + Pokemon combo: lucrative cash making machine.

I would just ignore the whole thing, but the fact that they can unlock some exclusive content in games is annoying.
But hey, it's okay when nintendo does it.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
That's really not cool. How exclusive are we talking exactly? Is it superficial things or withholding major additions to the game as per general developer decorum these days?Blinge wrote:I would just ignore the whole thing, but the fact that they can unlock some exclusive content in games is annoying.

Although I spit on the idea altogether, I can't see Nintendo denying people anything except pointless trinkets.

Splatoon Amiibo unlock 20 challenge missions each in the campaign that reward you with new gear or money.
They're basically the worst incarnation of DLC ever conceived. (The F2P model may be worse on paper, but all of the games that use it poorly are trash to begin with.)

Seems appropriate for this thread: being unable to buy a neat T-shirt because XXL (the biggest size available) apparently fits only individuals up to 1.84m (a little bit over 6'). I'm 2.02m (slightly above 6'7''), though...

Along the same lines - 'preshrunk' shirts which aren't advertised as such.Perikles wrote:Seems appropriate for this thread: being unable to buy a neat T-shirt because XXL (the biggest size available) apparently fits only individuals up to 1.84m (a little bit over 6'). A XXL pre-shrunk is the same size or smaller than a XL standard.
Bit me just yesterday.

Samsung's "Whistle" notification sound. That shit's hella annoying.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I've run into this a lot. I normally wear an XL, but I've received a number of shirts lately that are smaller than a L.system11 wrote:Along the same lines - 'preshrunk' shirts which aren't advertised as such.Perikles wrote:Seems appropriate for this thread: being unable to buy a neat T-shirt because XXL (the biggest size available) apparently fits only individuals up to 1.84m (a little bit over 6'). Even annoying that in the US/EU version on MM Powered Up, Rock (Mega Man's name in normal form) was changed into Mega.undamned wrote:People calling Mega/Rockman the "Blue Bomber." I find this so annoying, I've got a blog post in the works.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
But that's a better name. His name is Rock, his stupid sister who you never play in the games is named Roll. It's not a beautiful piece of Japanese culture ruined by Philistine Gaijin, it's an awful pun that nobody who didn't read the manual would get. Mega Man is a far superior name, and kinda more evocative since his power is accumulating the powers of multiple other robots.copy-paster wrote:Even annoying that in the US/EU version on MM Powered Up, Rock (Mega Man's name in normal form) was changed into Mega.undamned wrote:People calling Mega/Rockman the "Blue Bomber." Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
yeah, Mega Man can be a fitting name in his "super fighting robot" form but when he changed into normal / human-like form (according to MM 4 opening scene) maybe Rock's name would be fit in general rather than Mega.
