Sony PVM-14L5 Horizontal Line Issue

Post by Flabber »

Hello, I just purchased a Sony PVM-14L5 from a buyer off of eBay. It was listed as new and I don't see any evidence that it isn't, but it has a straight horizontal line that appears to be dead or just displaying black/grey. It's hard to photograph, but the 5th photo came out the best.

This line shows up on every input (even empty inputs) and every resolution/scan type. Breaking the screen into thirds, the line is right between the 2/3 and 3/3. What could be causing this?

Those are the horizontal damping lines that hold the aperture grille on. They're on all Trinitrons, though I haven't noticed them on consumer TVs, just computer monitors.

On bright screens the lower one is easily visible on my 14L5. White makes it very clear.

yep, damping line.

Impressed you saw it, you must sit VERY close to your TV.

Your contrast might be a bit high, too, but it's hard to tell when not in person.

I never see them on my 20L5, but I have two because its a bigger screen.
