TIL asking random people to do police work is a bad idea

Everybody should have realized, by now, that TES is just an excuse to have players go do a bunch of perverse things, like the daedric quests. Unfortunately I suspect Bethesda don't realize (or don't care) that following quest markers doesn't make people thoughtful...most people just do whatever's easiest, and if they do have to make a choice in a case like this, it's going to be based just on bias. I felt that Rockstar Studios games and Bioshock get to be distasteful for whacking you around with a particular political story, but even so there is normally a way to try to do things in a more or less correct way given the constraints of reality through a funhouse mirror (although there is a "betrayed woman" quest in Red Dead Redemption that is very similar to this one, and worse in the sense that there's no hope of completing it in a good way).
Normally it doesn't matter (do you like lycanthropy? cheese? do you like your stars black or white?) but I find this particular instance distasteful because not jumping to conclusions in a case like this has real-world importance.
It's not just "pulling a Rashomon," because at the end of the day you're expected to make a choice, rather than make the correct choice of walking away.

Excellent effort at dehumanisation. I read the refugees described as cockroaches recently too.

^ That is absolutely disgusting. Another step up for the corporate agenda in the continued vilification of poor and disparate people via the literary gutter chute that is the Daily Mail.

Several of our current crop of presidential hopefuls would probably get behind that if they thought they could get away with it, and considering how much closer we get to that point day by day at least one or two of them will probably propose it anyway.Skykid wrote:Why don't we just burn homeless people with acid while we're at it.

The Spirits of the Law [mp3]
You'll get four weeks for squatters in your attic, or for yielding to a hitchhiker's thumb. A month for spitting in the gutter if your spit fails to land on a bum. You're fined if you give them the time of day. Cuffed if you give them the watch on your wrist, and if you're caught sharing your wallet, your name goes on the list. We'll put footfalls at your back, pitbulls on your heels, thugs along your alleys, slash your wheels: one, two, three, four! They're the losers; they have failed. Our sewers and our jails are filling up with those that would not lift a finger. Don't you dare shelter those who could not be bothered.
We'll stuff epitaphs in your mailbox, burn epithets on your lawn. You can unplug the radio, the TV, the phone, but our voices go on and on. We're your neighbors, your landlord, the boss of your boss, we manage your stocks. Our kids work in shifts with aluminum bats, pacing your block, chasing your cat. It'll end with a midnight cocktail on your living room rug, thrown through the window--from Molotov with love. There is no shelter for those who help the helpless. Plainclothes soldiers of whisper-militias in bed with the working-class mob. The soapbox leads to cityhall, to the schoolboards, to death squads. Our agenda won't stop lengthening. Our creed: you bleeding hearts will bleed. Yes, our methods may not be written law (but the spirit is all there, isn't it?)
So, no relief for scum, no second chance. We're through with sympathy--it changes nothing. Here on out, the old umbrella is closed. No more programs, crutches, no one left with guts enough to spare a half-cent. Victims we shall one day cease to be. No more bread and soup, no sleepers in the park. We're spirits lynching in the dark, non-events without a headline to read. Firehose and hounds blast through the streets. The billyclubs pound like a heartbeat. Crimes between the lines of written law.
Passing bills and punching podiums and closing in on exaltation. It's always just a lynch or two away.

PayPal's overseas fees aren't in line with what the fee calculators say.
Think I've finally put the final nail in the coffin of THE ACCOUNT THAT WOULD NOT DIE.
PayPal is also getting in on the action; it wouldn't let me delete the bank account because of a non-existent "pending transaction" and I got the phone system in top form, repeating instructions despite being asked for the "next" step. The trick here is to simply say "talk to a person" twice, ignoring the response the first time, at the main menu; it gave in the second time. Howler of the day: When selecting "I can't log in / can't connect to the Internet," the first lines are "try going to http://www.paypal.com" - uhwat
I wonder how much money banks (without free checking) think they spend on checking accounts that don't meet the fee-avoidance minimums, vs. those that meet it? We all know the story about how they like to have money to put into trading but this is only part of the story.

A trend that makes my blood boil, not because it is a big issue, but because it is absolutely retarded: when game trailers say only it is on Steam, but don't even mention the goddamned operating systems on which the game will run.
Steam is just a store, damnit, it is not a platform! To say a game is "for Steam" is as dumb as saying it is "for Best Buy".

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
When my girlfriend lazily sends me a text that makes no sense and I end up spending more time trying to figure out wtf she's talking about (and getting annoyed enough to find the appropriate thread on the internet in which to complain about it) when she could have just avoided all of the confusion by conveying her thoughts more clearly in the first place.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Interesting trajectory we've been on so far. In my lifetime it's gone from Thatcher importing coal from Mexico: destroying a multi-generational industry in her own country and Norman Lamont advocating mass unemployment, to free market outsourcing which has resulted in university/college educated people answering a phone for pennies over min wage and jobs posting on Facebook requiring a marketing degree (lol) and very little else for anyone without a degree, to Cameron vilifying anyone who is unemployed and proposing to get rid of the human rights act in Britain. Nice to see all those Brit celebs who turn out for the PR which comes with participating in Band Aid, turning out in support of the British who buy their shit! I give us about 10 years.
The most sickening thing is these ignorant, easily manipulated cretins are actually buying into the government's anti-unemployed propaganda at a time when employment has never been so insecure. We actually have people so unable to think that they persecute unemployed people labelling them 'Dole Scroungers' while they receive 'Tax Credits' which subsidise their employers' shit wages; at the expense of the taxpayer.
As a kid in Northern Ireland I used to get laughed at for saying that the British monarchy would eventually come for the British people, but it's happening in my lifetime.
I'm going to take my chances in the Irish Republic, soon. I cannot see the Irish army turning on the Irish, but in this case we may see UN intervention.

The vilification of the unemployed/poor is happening in France too, except it's the so-called socialists/democrats in power doing it lol.
Anyway that shit doesn't matter, it won't change anything as everything feels like it's about to fall apart; countdown to the EU's doomsday: 2 years~ish ?

Everytime I try to buy the vape stuff a WalMart or speedway it always turns into this twenty minute long ordeal. Why can't they just read the box? Is it really that hard?

1. People who keep saying our economy is getting better.
2. Before, they were blaming all the high prices on high gas prices.
whats the excuse for all the high prices now?

Gas prices seem to be rising around here. I hope its only a summer thing.mvsfan wrote:1. People who keep saying our economy is getting better.

There are so many reasons why gas prices can stay high, I'm surprised it ever went down by $2 a gallon.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
you must live in the south too. gas has been hovering around $2.50 a gallon here for a while now.
Its definately summer. the expectation is that its going to fall again a lot in the winter.
the people out west are still paying way more for it though.
but still I havent seen the prices of food or anything else change. all of it is still high.
and Shipping rates have recently gone up ?? !!
theyre not passing the savings on to consumers as usual.

Here's something that annoys me: the amount of people driving at all times of the day. Everyone must have their own personal big rig on the streets every time they need to travel a half mile. It's loud and it smells. How about using some of those Oreo calories to pedal a bike or something?

Also, looks like Windows 10 won't let you defer updates anymore. You can pay $99 to get Pro, though (so much for Windows 10 being free).

How are you finding Windows 10? I just got a notification to register for the update, apparently there's a queue or something. Looks like it has some cool features though.Ed Oscuro wrote:nothing like epinephrine + fast pulse
