Been awhile... DoDonPachi, why play as Player 2?

Post by TonK »

I remember something about score but for the life of me, can't remember what it was.

Checked WoA and Full Extent of the Jam to no avail.

Thanks guys.

I think only player 1 can use a laser-bomb when they have MAXIMUM bomb going and still keep a chain going. Player 2 STAR bonus carries over from stage to stage if you no miss.

It’s something kooky like that anyway. Use player 1 since that bomb-chain ability comes in VERY handy.

Anyone know if this was intentional or some obscure bug?

I think this works only with Laser-type ships. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but the C-S WR guy plays with player 2, and that would explain why.

Also, you lose the max bonus until the next time you pick up a bomb, and it'll be a lower max bonus. So even for scoring, the being able to keep a chain after a laser bomb is pretty useless. So if you care about getting the highest scores in DDP, you will want to play P2 side.

Having different benefits between player ships has been done at times to help spread players between different sides of the machine. ESPRade has something involving differences in sides. Trizeal's 2P side ships are faster(so you'll want 2P side to help get a few higher medal chains that will quickly drop anyway). Gekirinden's 2P side is easier due to higher shotpower. Ketsui's 2P side supposedly has lower rank(first loop only). Some other Cave games might have stuff like this(at least for earlier ones). Salamander 2 is easier on 2P side due to lower rank.

It'd be neat to have a list of games with important benefits, both in terms of scoring or survival based on which player you pick since I haven't seen much about that mentioned in the strategies section.

As far as I understand, the difference is very small, and really matters only at the absolutely highest level of play. So, practically speaking, playing p1 should generally earn you higher scores.

Esprade has a glitch on p2 which is actually not too different from the one in DoDonpachi: bombing extends your chain timer instead of simply freezing it. Clover-TAC uses this quite effectively in his superplay during stage 5-2 to score some massive points.
