PVM Wii Compatibility
Hello, I've been eyeing the Sony PVM-20L5 and trying to read up on it, but there are a few questions I have not been able to find the answer to.
I am primarily going to be playing the Wii on it. The Wii is NTSC.
1. What wires and adapters would I need to get the best possible picture quality from my Wii?
2. and following up on that, will using that method increase the input (display) lag?
3. Would using a component cable and just using bnc adapters work? or is a sync lead needed?

First off, check the user manual which should answer most of your qusetions
Since it's a 20L5, you should be good with component and getting BNC to AV couplers.

Component is self-contained; it doesn't use a separate sync signal.Flabber wrote:3. Would using a component cable and just using bnc adapters work? or is a sync lead needed?
If you are trying to get RGBs out of the Wii then you'd need an RGBs cable. But you shouldn't, since you'd lose 480p support on the 20L5.

Wait, are all PVM's with the "HR" label capable of 480p? Because I saw a few PVM's with that label recently and didn't pick them up. They were from the mid-late 90's, and I was focused on buying a 20M2MDU

Re: PVM Wii Compatibility
No, HR means that the tube itself got a certain minimum TVL rating. My BVMs have the HR logo, but don't support 480p.

Re: PVM Wii Compatibility
The special marking on the PVM-20L5 is "Multiformat" which should denote 480p at minimum (and likely all the monitors with this marking have 1080i and 720p as well).

Cool, are those PVM's by any chance compatible with non-standard stuff like 24hz arcade games?Ed Oscuro wrote:The special marking on the PVM-20L5 is "Multiformat" which should denote 480p at minimum (and likely all the monitors with this marking have 1080i and 720p as well).
Sorry if I've asked this before

Re: PVM Wii Compatibility
Nope, though they seem to handle somewhat off-spec 15KHz pretty well.

To actually answer the OP's question, yes it will work. Just get a component video cable, get some RCA to BNC adapters, and you are good to go.

OP's Wii is NTSC, and if memory serves NTSC Wii's don't output RGB. Stick with component, you just need 3 BNC to RCA couplers.Ed Oscuro wrote:Component is self-contained; it doesn't use a separate sync signal.Flabber wrote:3.
