Best video game sound fonts

In my opinion, the DECO32:

For a lighter chiptune, perhaps what ThunderForce IV uses, which was also used in one of the Psyvariar The Mix album's songs.

I like the Wolf Fang soundtrack (and pretty much any Data East OST, for that matter), but some of the instruments in that song alone sound...gassy, and the rest is pretty generic. By comparison, mature Konami stuff (early 90s and later, certainly) is instantly recognizable and doesn't seem to have any obvious weaknesses.

It's rather dated IMO, but whatever Capcom was doing (mix of samples and hardware) for CPS-2 stuff like Red Earth, PlayStation-based hardware like Strider 2, and so on - that's all pretty neat too. Those guitars...not really a fan, but they tell you it's Capcom.

SNES is a goldmine for "sound fonts" as such, being sample-based and all. The sample bit and interpolation hurts a bit, but still there's so many games that each have a unique sound on that system. At the same time, you can't go wrong with the competition and Yamaha.

For me, the Gradius ReBirth soundfont is pretty good IMO
It's good to see modified Gradius III AC sound combined with MSX's SCC and PSG soundfonts

Konami SCC+. Sublimely warm, clear sound with juuust the right amount of buzz.

I really dig the bass sound in Rockman X3 for some reason. It stands out as a "sound font" that I like.

F-zero says hi and still gives me goose bumps to this day:

Loud stabs, strings and a deep bass
Seems like a very versatile sound font.

And for some more funk on the snes check Spanky's Quest.

Final Fight 3 has pretty nice font too, but the reverb is ridiculous so if that could be toned down, maybe.
