I am considering going on a PS2 binge and buying up all the good shmups. I only want Jap exclusives as I will buy the localized versions if they are available. Same for the DC.
The games that I am interested in are -
ESP galuda
Psyvariar 2/final (DC or PS2?)
Shikigami no shiro 1 & 2 (DC or PS2?)
On DC I would like to take a look at Gunbird 2, Gigawing 2, Mars Matrix etc. I have none of the recent releases.
I already have DDP DOJ and Rtype final.
I will be playing on a VGA monitor via adaptors or XRGB2. So I assume DC is the way to go for high res stuff.
I like bullet shooters, manic or not. Favourites are ESP ra.de and Dodonpachi. Just to give you an idea of what I like.
Got a new Jap PS2 and DC, so what shmups shall I buy?

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Offhand I don't think that the first Shikigami game was ever released on the DC (I think that's an error in the Xyanide files), though the second one was...from what I've seen most people consider the DC version the better one because it's better-looking, but apparently the gameplay in both is pretty much the same.
If you like Psikyo stuff there are a couple of 2-game compilations available on the PS2, though supposedly releases of most of the games are better on other systems...I'm sure someone will also recommend Border Down on the DC to you, though personally, while I like it overall, I don't think it's worth the prices it goes for nowadays.

Donpachi PSX is still 30 dollars at play-asia.BulletMagnet wrote:I'd recommend Harmful Park on the PS1 if you can find it, but beware, it's hard to locate and expensive to buy. The PS1 versions of DonPachi and DoDonPachi are also said to be overall superior to their Saturn ports (moreso with the former than the latter), but they're also rarer and more expensive.
