Are these shmup posters worth the price?
Have you bought any poster from Chrono's store? Are the prints of good quality? He has Mushihimesama, Deathsmiles, Dodonpachi, Ikaruga, etc.

That guy is most likely selling those posters illegally, so it's your choice whether you would like to support a business like that.
Re: Are these shmup posters worth the price?
I don't mind if they are legal or not. I'm definitelly not going to pay 70€ for an official poster. I'm just interested in knowing if the quaility is similar to the official posters or the prints come from scans which may look blured or textured.

Considering most of them are actually flyer scans rather than poster scans, and the price they're being sold at, I'm willing to bet they're repro and the print quality is terrible.Elaphe wrote:I don't mind if they are legal or not. These are repros, first of all. Second, most of them (as Icarus pointed out) are not actual posters from the games; they are flyers or artwork scans that have been blown up. You can actually see the textured effect from scanning printed art on this listing here. Hover over the preview image and you'll see what I'm talking about.
If you want repro prints, just ask people in the community -- there are a lot of resources available here, including some very high-resolution scans of flyers and posters that you can reprint on your own dime (which will almost certainly give you a better result, possibly for less money). Just so long as you don't go trying to pass them off as original, I don't think anyone here has anything against repro art and posters.
EDIT: Looked around a bit more. The Ikaruga posters are especially hilarious -- most of them are scans of boxart from the model kits, a couple are just screenshots of the steam version start screen, and one is an old desktop wallpaper I think I've seen in the fanart section of Ikaruga.co.uk.
EDIT2: Hahaha I was right:
Ebay listing
Archived copy of Ikaruga.co.uk from back when it was still alive
The wallpaper in question
I'm not sure if it's official artwork or fan produced, but either way it is definitely not suitable resolution or material for a poster print. XD

About 10 years ago I stopped buying stuff off eBay after I bought 2 mundane GBA Final Fantasy games still in production. They smelled ripe of fresh ink. Both games were tough to fit into GBA and then I noticed no seal of quality and the screws were different. wtf? Both were $5. Sad part is one of the battery saves didn't work.

Are you serious? He has a Raiden V poster, when I'm sure that not even MOSS has released any official flyers of the game yet. The quality must be terribleElaphe wrote:Have you bought any poster from Chrono's store? Are the prints of good quality? He has Mushihimesama, Deathsmiles, Dodonpachi, Ikaruga, etc.

lmao I have many of these scans. the resolution on most of them is pretty low. I don't think they will look that great on a big poster.

You can check out my toresetsu link in my sig and take some of those to Kinkos or whatever. Might be pretty cool. They are from flyer size scans though.

Re: Are these shmup posters worth the price?
Avoid this seller. As mentioned above they just use pre-existing pictures taken from the internet and print them onto poster paper.
I found out the hard way a couple months ago when they started producing some classic looking game posters. Got a couple posters that were obvious thumbnail sized JPEGs printed at a large size.
Quality reproduction poster makers are very rare. I've only seen some good ones on etsy.com. Ebay is only useful for occasional rare original poster.

It's almost funny, that the seller puts watermarks on the images…

That's even shittier quality than the poster scans Rancor has. These are repros, first of all. Look at the Earthbound section - it looks like he's selling fanart on posters. I'd guarantee it's without author permission.
It's one thing to print out a repro poster because you can't find an original one yourself, but selling them unlicensed for a profit seems a bit sleazy...

The scans rancor has are actually incredibly good. Very high resolution and high quality.

Yeah, I worded that badly. I meant to say that it's incredibly shitty quality compared to those as in a "why would he bother" kind of way. Do people really want to pay for really bad quality posters?

Re: Are these shmup posters worth the price?
On a related note: I actually have many of the Cave artbooks; they contain clean artwork, some of which I've scanned in the past. Not at printable resolution (my older batch were sharpened too excessively and done with a poor scanner, but I've since gotten access to better equipment), at least not yet, but if there is a specific Cave-related image you're after that nobody else has up I might be able to help out.
Here's one of my older scans, before I got the better scanner: Link
Newer images are much higher resolution (600DPI or more) and less artificial sharpening / moire artifacting. They need a little more work to look saturated and vibrant but are worth it in the end. However, I'm also trying to figure out a solution for high-resolution photography of artbook pages instead of scanning (since scanning is more destructive); I have access to studio space and good camera equipment already, it's just a matter of actually having time to try out different techniques and setups.
