Congrats man and thanks for letting us know.
Cool vintage stuff you got there, do you do this often?
What's the coolest thing you've found?

"slightly used" makes it seem like it was used for something other than eating.

One man's trash 'n' all that.
Nice job.

.. I used to do this for food now and then. did it with a group of 3, had to lower myself into a cage to get to supermarket bins, someone else had been there before with wire cutters. I was the only one thin enough to get through haha. Felt kinda post-apocalyptic

Careful of Racoons! If you do see some, just toss a long plank or something they can climb in there so they can get out. There was a whole family of coons stuck in our dumpster out back once.

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

I like the vintage skateboard wheels and jukebox radio.

The Jukebox is worth alot.

I'll never get used to seeing people dig through my garbage. It's so unsettling.

I just threw out a bunch of 286 monitors and other old PC parts. By threw them out I mean drove to the recycling center twice to drop them off.

Only time I've ever dumpster dove was by accident. My friend said hey can you do me a favor and throw out my trash? Sure thing. Giant dumpster had 100s of new DVDs still in shrink wrap. Like 10 - 20 copies of Batman Begins so you know what year it was. I was blown away and couldn't figure out why would anyone throw out new DVDs? Without a price tag or bar code on them.

Oh I take that back I have had to dumpster dive. My gf went to the recycling center and tossed out a plastic bag full of recycling. They don't allow you to throw in the plastic, its just paper, so it was just the papers. Then she got back to her car and looked and thought "I don't remember 2 bags of papers." Turns out the first bag she threw out was vital information for the accountant to do her taxes. Hilarious. Guess who had to do the dumpster diving. Its okay though, it gives me a story to tell.

Copied/edited from the triumph thread:D

A few years back (2008 - more than a few now) I put one of these in my buildings lobby with a sign that said "Give me a good home".

http://www.abt.com/product/23376/Sony-KD36FS170.html

It was gone an hour later. I never regretted getting rid of it simply because there isn't enough space for a giant ass TV that I wasn't using and at the time, and I knew less than shit about retro games and crts (I wouldn't start playing shooters for 5 years).

Fast forward to last week.

I bought Strikers II after playing it at our monthly shooter/retro meet. It is perfectly playable on my PS 2, but looks like shit on my flat screen. My wife suggested picking up a small crt to play it on.

My brother came to visit tonight and on our way out for some beers and hockey I spotted an Aiwa F 2400 sitting in someones trash. I said if it was there on the way home I would grab it, and sure enough it was there two hours later.

10 blocks and we got it home. It wasn't exactly light, but it works perfectly. Strikers II looks so much better.

TRIUMPH :D!
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Gross
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

When I moved out of my university campus' family housing some years back, I put a modded PS1 with a pile of burned games in the hallway corner where I had picked up some useful small pieces of furniture and a (repairable) broken LCD monitor before. Figured somebody's kid might enjoy it, and I already had two modded PSOnes at home anyway.

I probably have dumpster dived a few times many years ago, but the most memorable time was back in high school, I lived a few blocks away from a small recycling collection depot with a scrap metal bin. My mountain biking buddy and I, one morning we went into the scrap bin, pulled out three broken bicycles. We dragged them to my house and spent the rest of the morning swapping and cleaning parts, and managed to put together two working, ridable bikes - brakes and gear shifting and all.
The rest of the afternoon was spent joyriding them and doing really dumb stuff, like riding at top speed into concrete walls and off of loading bays (bailing out before impact, of course). By the end of the afternoon, we were back to three broken bicycles, which we dragged back to the depot and tossed into the scrap bin where we found them.
Thinking back, we probably could have gotten $10 or $20 for them at the sports consignment if we hadn't wrecked them...

I never went into a dumpster, they're too messy here, but I did find a Flat CRT next to the dumpster at my apartment when I went to take out the trash. Hauled it into my apartment and hooked it up. Best retro-console display I have right now.

Back before my neighborhood had trash pickup, we used to haul our garbage to the dump in a trailer. My dad would often find cool electronics gizmos there. Oscilloscope. Vacuum Tube Tester. Stuff like that. He did electronics repair as a side job, so he got a lot of use out of these things.
