I feel a bit uneasy about this, because without him composing the music, that Raiden vibe in the music is lost. This also leads me to believe that the game is even further behind in development than I thought, since MOSS hasn't told him if he will be composing the music or not, and they might not even gotten to that point yet where they are looking for a composer.
Isn't Sato just basically telling you that he can't provide any information?
He does neither confirm nor deny his involvement in the development of
Raiden V. He was just too polite to respond with a "no comment".

Is there even the slightest chance this game will be anything other than entirely dismissible?

Raiden IV was pretty good, so yes

The only thing that worries me is that they haven't shown a speck of actual screens or gameplay yet

Why would this have bullet wobble? Raiden III and IV don't even have horizontal scrolling.

I thought IV had it at some points?

Been too long - yeah, IV has it, though it's definitely not in III at all, autoscrolling aside. Never heard of bullet wobbling as an issue in 3D engine STGs, though. Seems like an inherently 2D phenomenon, aside from perhaps a few shoddily programmed amateur works.

They look like they scroll with the camera a little bit in IV, but it's hard to say if it's just a trick of the eye with the camera.

Seems that complaints of Raiden IV's alleged bullet wobble have not been uncommon, but I never perceived it as such, compared to in several 2D titles where it's plainly obvious. Think it's a consequence of the slightly angled 3D perspective, and/or the background and foreground scrolling horizontally at different rates.

It is the horizontal scrolling difference, which in the case of Raiden IV is caused by the background being in 3D and not on it's own static camera.
It is there, but it's quite subtle in Raiden IV, I found it more noticable in Bullet Souls for example, as far as 3D titles go.

According to recent tweets by Moss, we could possibly be getting more info about Raiden V soon, and something is also going with Raiden IV Overkill, something being mentioned about its 1 year anniversary from what I could understand.

I won't be totally shocked if Microsoft decides to wheel it out at E3. They have to take what exclusives they can get to push the Xbone, Raiden V's production values are clearly meant to be well above those of III/IV, and Raiden is one of the small handful of STGs that has still retained some brand recognition with average gamers outside Japan. Would almost certainly be digital-only in the West though, especially if UFO handles it: they officially ceased involvement in the retail market a few years ago.

Well, Microsoft's conference is tomorrow morning so I'll be keeping an eye on that, hoping the game will be shown.

It will be shown in Tokyo Game Show, as I didn't see anything during the E3 2015.

Damn, I should've figured as much. Oh well, I guess we have to wait until August then >_>

Tokyo Game Show is in September. If it's going to show at any convention, it'll be there. Expecting a 2016 release at this point, if it doesn't get sucked into purgatory before re-emerging on PS4.

I think that if you're expecting big-stage press-conference time for a shmup, any shmup, you're dreaming. The best you could probably hope for is a 10-second slot in one of those "indie game supercut" reels that Sony or Microsoft usually do.

And if they did do such a thing, the shmup would most likely be dumbed down "we want the wider audience" nonsense.

It would be a neon-saturated clone of an obscure commodore 64 game developed by 2 people in Germany.

The advertising would also bill it as "a true return to the golden age of arcade gaming!"

Not saying necessarily that would be bad, but it won't be anything close to a 90's-2000 style arcade shooter.

Yeah, and signal the "return" with spongy health bars and checkpoints every 10 seconds. It would also have an open world and sidequests because, "that works in other genres, right?"

I'm assuming we get news that this will be an Xbox One and Windows 10 game (or at least a Steam title) at some point in the next few months. I think this is how Microsoft can broaden the appeal of niche Japanese games, as relying solely on the XBO playerbase is going to yield small numbers in terms of units sold.

Why are you assuming that? Raiden IV didn't get a PC version. Microsoft has been pushing Windows 10 lately by having Gears of War and Killer Instinct ported, but I just don't think they'll have it done for a niche eastern game.

Well, I think D4 was the first sign. I also think Microsoft realizes that they have these niche Japanese games in the queue (various shmups, Psychopass, some JRPGs) and need to do right by the developers, so as to ensure they move some units. And I think the way to do that is to put the games on Xbox One and PC, since both platforms have different demographics in ways. I mean, there aren't a lot of folks who own an XBO who love Japanese stuff, STGs included. So what better way to maintain the publisher-developer relationship than to be able to offer said developer two platforms.

I've read on the fighting games forums that Killer Instinct is gonna get released for Windows 10 AND have cross-play with Xbone, which is pretty legendary. It's not a Japanese game, but shows that Microsoft is prepared to leverage its PC dominance to help Xbox-only titles succeed.

At this point, it's looking highly improbable that any of the Xbox One-exclusive STGs will be released this year as planned.

Microsoft will not be at Tokyo Game Show '15. MOSS could show up on their own, but I really doubt it.

I'll be surprised if the system is still supported in Japan past 2016. MS could easily just tell Japanese Xbox fans to import American games and systems from then on, since everything is region free. I know that several third-party Western 360 games released in Japan already lacked a JP localization, with all text and voices left in English and only a Japanese manual provided.

Same here, considering how the Xbox One launch in Japan was a ghost town. There's still a slight chance that MOSS will just release the game this year however (unless showcasing the game at TGS is some publisher requirement I'm not aware of).
