Experience with HORI/PDP character-themed Wii classic pads?

Post by BazookaBen »

So both HORI and PDP are making Gamecube-style classic controllers. The HORI model looks closer to a GCN pad, but they both look cool, and the PDP has more themes to choose from. I'm wondering if any of you have experience with any of them because I'm interested in picking up one or the other. Just wondering general stuff about the quality of the d-pad, analog sensitivity, comfort and whatnot.

I did get to play a couple rounds of Smash on the PDP, and it felt ok, but not enough time to make a judgement. One thing I did notice is that it has analog triggers. The HORI pad just has digital from what I can see. Are there any classic-controller enabled games that actually use analog triggers? Smash on Wii-U maybe (didn't think to try when I had the chance)?

EDIT: according to this redditor the PDP's triggers aren't true analog. I need to see if this is confirmed elsewhere:

Would also love to hear from any of you that have tried this older HORI classic pad:

The Hori controller works really well in my use. It feels just like the real thing except lighter and slight differences in plastic quality

The Hori's aren't analog either, and they shouldn't be. Because it's still a classic controller. Meaning aside from the sticks it's all digital.

Yeah, the Hori has normal buttons for triggers. But the thing is, the original Classic Controller did have analog triggers. However, the Classic Controller Pro released a couple years later nixed the analog triggers and had two sets of digital shoulder buttons. Does that mean that Nintendo removed analog triggers because no games were using them? I Googled for a little while and couldn't find any Wii games that use the classic-controller's analogs.

By the way, Bonkers, how is the analog sensitivity on the Hori, pretty close to the Gamecube? I know my Hori PS3 controller is a little too sensitive. Great d-pad though

It seems about as sensitive as a real GCN controller. I don't have any problems that I don't have on a GCN controller, like trying to do tilts in SSB. I suck at those. And I almost always prefer to use it instead of the CC or wiimote in any given game now. Like Capcom vs Tatsunoko

I didn't know the original CC had analog triggers. Are there any games that use 'em?
