CPS2 suicide battery question

The question is - how long does a battery last when the board is not connected to a power source? I know the battery lasts up to a dozen years when the board is played regularly. But what about the boards that are left in a closet for quite some time?

Shelf discharge varies from maker to maker, environmental conditions affects them too.

Simple answer: years.

To be on the safe side, i would say you should replace batteries between 5-7 years.
