Was browsing on the Hori USA site and came across a new Vewlix based joystick that is compatible with both PS3 and PS4 platforms:

Comes with the same ol' MSRP of $299.99 USD and is slated to be released on 5/01/2015 stateside. The only thing is, (instead of the usual Sanwa or Seimitsu parts like that of the older VLX joystick models for the PS3 and the Xbox 360), this latest VLX variant is endowed with a Hori Hayabusa joystick and Kuro push buttons. Of course, it can be opened up and swapped in with your favorite Sanwa or Seimitsu arcade parts with ease (but at the expense of voiding your warranty). I like the fact that this newest Vewlix joystick is able to do "double duty" from the get-go with two different gaming consoles (plus the fact that it has a PS4 based touch pad for added functionality is cool). I wouldn't be surprised to see a VLX variant released for the Xbox One console in the nearby future.

Silly question: what makes this so much better than a standard RAP? It's twice the price but has the same stick and buttons. Is it just because it's bigger, has an easy open top, and mimics the button layout of a Taito cab?

It comes down to a matter of personal preference...considering that this RAP VLX is the same dimensions as that of a full-sized Taito Vewlix control panel (for that unmistakable arcade gaming experience that the smaller Hori RAPs can't match/replicate in terms of overall size and grand stature). Sure, a nice & sturdy table to place this particular VLX variant when playing a serious gaming session on the ol' PS3 or PS4 is necessary/obligatory. Not to mention the fact that Hori will only make/sell a certain number of this joystick for a limited time and if you miss out on getting one at it's original asking MSRP, then it'll be even more expensive to acquire on the secondary collector's speciality gaming joystick market -- that's a given these days.
Here's what the original PS3 VLX joystick looks like: http://www.amazon.com/Real-Arcade-Pro-P ... arcade+pro
and the XBox 360 VLX variant as well: http://www.amazon.com/Real-Arcade-Pro-P ... arcade+pro
And lastly, is the uber-rare PS3 based VLX Diamond variant: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-BRAND-NEW- ... 43d785ac6e

I can't afford to buy a real cab, so this is the closet to the real thing(it does look and feels like one)McCracAttack wrote:Silly question: what makes this so much better than a standard RAP?
