I didn't think you were, in fact. I thought you said you were the author of the English language one, on the Under Defeat Q&A. I was talking about the last message on the latest G.Rev Magazine, starting off with "アメリカからこんにちは☆" (Good afternoon from America). I'll just assume you aren't Mr. (or Ms.?) "トラさん".Kron wrote:What makes you think I'm American?
Under Defeat for DC

I've been following this upcoming shmup for a while now, and from the screenshots and replay vids I've seen so far, I'm pretty excited about it. It's probably the closest thing to a sequel to Zero Gunner 2, another awesome shmup by the way. I just hope that it plays super close to the arcade release with little or no slowdown during gameplay.

Sure. It's decent enough, just not very interesting, I'm sure it'll fit into the game nicely though. Pretty generic VGM synth rock with jazz influences, basically.Sundance wrote:Has anyone heard the soundtrack or enough of it to decide whether its worth picking up the LE Edition vs the Game by itself?
Composed and produced by the producer of the Border Down soundtracks (Shinji Hosoe, he did the Ibara OST too), like someone mentioned earlier, but the absence of Yack is very very clear. I never play videogame music on my stereo set, so I'll keep my mp3s and go with the original version.
Then again, I wonder what the differences are in this "reissue" that Seven Force speaks of.

This is what I was wondering about. Considering that the DC version includes an Arrange soundtrack, we should expect the OST CD in the LE set to include these tracks as well as maybe some tracks from the Arcade mode.Seven Force wrote:FYI:

Well I'm sure it wont be long until we get another smashing soundtrack from him. Maybe G.Rev's next shooter, or something entirely different? He is a freelancer after all.Thunder Force wrote:What a disappointment, I was really looking forward to hearing another great OST from him after his good work on Border Down and Senko No Rondezinger wrote:the absence of Yack is very very clear.
"Tate" is japanese and means "vertical".Game Rogue wrote:Question.
There is a mode call Tate in this game. What is Tate Mode exactly?
Thus in "tate mode" the game is displayed for a vertical screen, as in the original arcade version, which means you will have to flip your TV or monitor to the side.

The opposite of "tate mode" is "yoko mode" (horizontal mode). This mode does not require you to flip your screen, but there are black bars to the left and right of the playing field.

If there's ever a shmup-related term you're unsure of, you might want to check this thread:

It's not complete yet, and I hope to update it again soon, but hopefully it'll cover some stuff for you.

Interesting note: the pilots and their support staff speak in German, the baddies in English (assuming that you're the good guy). Also, The girls look like SS officers, honestly (their dresses at least).

Actually, they speak more like "Germanese". Their sentences make about as much sense as the usual shmup-Engrish.Randorama wrote:Interesting note: the pilots and their support staff speak in German, the baddies in English (assuming that you're the good guy). And you're absolutely right about the SS uniforms. There often is a morbid fascination with German militarism/fascism in Japanese pop-culture (as is in US pop culture too).

So after Ikaruga, there's another somewhat racist/fascist shooter.

I can already hear questions on this being asked in parliaments all over the west...
Anyway, we already knew that the Japanese sometimes have a taste for things (puts it mildly) a little bit different.
But as long as they keep producing awesome shmups, I could care less.
The game and it's artwork look fantastic.

that's because the nazis were good at one thing, design. i don't think there is anything to worry about.Seven Force wrote:And you're absolutely right about the SS uniforms. There often is a morbid fascination with German militarism/fascism in Japanese pop-culture (as is in US pop culture too).
sorry for the "lieu commun" but german sounds great in a military environment, nice touch from grev.
Yeah, the nazi outlets were, after all, designed by the grandfather of Hugo Boss
But yeah, since the war depicted in Under Defeat looks more like "Old Continent vs New Continent", i'm not surprised of this choice. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some kind of cerebrotic reference to current events, honestly, as Border Down's plot was rather contort (please don't make me write it again, though
) .
Beside that, i thought that my german has become very bad of late, whereas they actually speak..."germanish", i feel relieved
(the "jawhol" uttered before a boss battle theme makes me think to the "the postman always rings twice", dunno why...)

But the player's side actually use Franch WWII tanks Char I bis, while the enemy used WWII German tanks... (SAM is confused.)Seven Force wrote:Actually, they speak more like "Germanese". I really doubt what is included in the OST come with the Limited Edition. Since there is a seperate OST of UD selling, I don't think the LE OST would got everything on the seperatly sold OST. Otherwise no one would but the seperatly sold OST, and those who had bought it would complain.Kiken wrote:This is what I was wondering about. There are 14 tracks on the OST, and according to NCSX, there will be 14 tracks on the CD included with the L.E. game, so taking what G.Rev said about them being different, I would assume it's going to be a complete arrange CD.SAM wrote:I really doubt what is included in the OST come with the Limited Edition. Dag, the Sega Direct release is going to include a B3 Poster!

This is the first time I've been really considering switching from Play-Asia/NCSX pre-order to Sega Direct... usually the extras aren't so tempting.

FYI play-asia.com is now offering a pre-order for the limited edition Sega Direct package w/ the poster. I think it's $99. Check their site.nZero wrote:Dag, the Sega Direct release is going to include a B3 Poster!

Cool. I've just cancelled my old order and went for the Sega Direct package via Play-Asia.
