Many faces will be punched.
First there is the dickwad who said it.
Next is the turd who decided, "Hey, that's a good one, how about we put it on the cover!"
Then come all the God damned idiots who agreed to it.
Oh, and WTF is up with replacing the original hand-painted Ikaruga ship with some weak CG model that looks like it was made out of Play-doh? That deserves a punch in the gut, and then a jump/stomp on the groin once they're down.
Erhm... anyway, going back to another off-topic, I've tried playing a PSP while sitting outside in the sun on a park bench. Damn near impossible, the glare was blinding and the contrast between the screen and my surroundings was so high that the screen practically looked all black.
And finally, back to the original topic... Yup. Gaiden's sealed the deal for me.

As has been stated above, Gradius Portable is single-player only. The version of Gradius Gaiden appearing in this collection is only 1 player.Turrican wrote:Does Gradius Portable allow wi-fi simultaneous multiplayer for Gaiden, like Mario Kart DS?
It would be very cool to play this thing together with other shmuppers fellow on the forum! I'm sure I'd learn a lot from the great players among you.

Barring some last minute stupidity on either Konami or SCEA's part, I think it will. If Gradius III&IV PS2 and Gradius V made it here then why not this?FatCobra wrote:If Konami doesn't release this collection to the states and Europe, I'd suggest we'd grab our PSPs (I don't have one, nor do I want one yet), fly to Japan, find the Konami HQ, and beat some execs over the head with Sony's PoSP.
Sweet avatar btw, is that a fan made SML sprite?

I love the cover art with the three older/newer ships in a hangar.
Random Gaiden pics, can't wait for this collection:

Gradius III
Was this dragon boss below in the arcade rev but not the SNES cart I take it? Been a long time since I dug into my Gradius III and IV disc.

What game/s did you pick up?circuitface wrote:Haha! I got mah PSP... now all i have to do is wait.

Sweet. I actually just picked up a PSP for this (well this and SFA III Max).
Indeed, it's in the arcade version but not the SNES.Dylan1CC wrote:Was this dragon boss below in the arcade rev but not the SNES cart I take it? Been a long time since I dug into my Gradius III and IV disc.

It just occurred to me to wonder whether a firmware update will be required to play this game (I haven't bothered to follow how MPH firmware launcher works).. And also too lazy to search through the topic to see if anyone else mentioned it already...
Ah well.. I just might update..! I got mah GP2X for homebrew...

This is the same thing that is worrying me. I'm dying to get my hands on this collection, but I really don't want to lose homebrew on the PSP.iatneH wrote:It just occurred to me to wonder whether a firmware update will be required to play this game
Will I give up being able to play Recca, Crisis Force, Gradius I & II, etc. on the NES ... not to mention all the PCE, SNES, Neo Geo CD etc. ... just for this Gradius Collection? I don't think so.
But one way or another I am going to buy it, and hope there will be some way to play it without losing homebrew down the line. :)

I feel the same way. I'll probably end up buying a 2nd PSP to run at a higher firmware for new titles like this.Nullsleep wrote:Will I give up being able to play Recca, Crisis Force, Gradius I & II, etc. on the NES ... not to mention all the PCE, SNES, Neo Geo CD etc. ... just for this Gradius Collection? edit: Do all new Japanese PSP titles force you to update the firmware? In any case, if the firmware updates get to be too much for the hackers I'll eventially just get a Gamepark (as long as the emulation keeps progressing nicely, especially the arcade emu, I want AvP and Simpsons arcade to go
)
However, I am playing my NESTER, Genny, Neo CD, SMS and Noiz2sa on 2.0 right now (had to update with Tokobot). How? I downloaded Fanjita's V.9 2.0 eboot loader. He already has cracked 2.6, even though for now it just allows homebrew Tetris, you can almost bet it will sooner than later allow most popular homebrew. The loader has its downsides, it freezes 6/10 times. But when it works, man does it work nicely. Get it at Fanjita.org, make sure to read the instructions carefully though of course and make sure your emulators are compatible.
edit: Also, MPH's downgrader works nicely, I used it to up and downgrade 3 times when I owned PSP Battlefront (before returning it)

Actually, an extra PSP is not such a bad idea if you want to play 2P games (on 1.5 games). Obviously you'd want to of course spring for a few duplicate UMDs since gamesharing mode is terribly undersupported and not even worth the time. Once tried gamesharing mode with a co-worker on my copy of Burnout Legends, it took what felt like at least 10 minutes for one measly track to load into his memory! And then another ten minute load when we wanted to race again. Some 1.52 games like Burnout can be tricked simply by using the WAB changer FYI.Thunder Force wrote:Surely it's not that over-the-top compared with some members throwing down $2000+ on a pcbUnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Darn you.

I'm thinking about it too, since I have some R2 UMD videos that are pretty much useless to me at the moment. Having 2 PSPs (the extra being from either Europe or Japan) would solve both the firmware update and the region problem.Dylan1CC wrote:Actually, an extra PSP is not such a bad idea if you want to play 2P games (on 1.5 games). For the completely illiterate in Japanese, the big characters say:
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, X, O, START.
BTW, it's read from top to bottom, right to left.
