Atomiswave ports on Dreamcast (or other consoles)...
Since this would be OT in the Under Defeat thread, I thought I'd start a thread discussing the likelihood of DC Atomiswave ports, as well as other consoles.
Personally, I would love to see Dolphin Blue get a console release. I'm always up for more borderliners, even if they are similar to the MS series.
If not Dreamcast, what about the 360? I wonder which console would handle Atomiswave games the best.

less than 0, basically. Dolphin Blue hasn't been too successful, also. Successful atomiswave games have been ported to PS2 already (i.e. the SNK-playmore stuff). True, the port would be very, very straightforward, but the right moment to do them has flown away, basically. On 360°...nice question, i haven't checked SNK-playmore plans for 360°, but their titles are more or less successful, and i think they would sell because of of the live factor. Unless i'm skipping something, though, they still haven't announced anything, but the console's launch is still recent, so...

That's too bad that hasn't done so well; it looks quite fun! People have mentioned that the PS2 may get more 2D ports in 2007, so maybe this game will get ported.Randorama wrote:less than 0, basically. Dolphin Blue hasn't been too successful, also. At an arcade and bowling center I went to a while back, called Fat City, they had an Atomiswave racing game-can't remember the name of it, though.
Speaking of Dolphin Blue, I just found out about Sega Gameworks amusement centers here in the US! Probably not as good as Sega World in Japan (you can see footage of that in one of the recent Retro Core vids.), but still, I wish there was one here in Denver. They're even planning one in Mexico City!

Um, SNK mentioned that for the US, and only because licensing fees and restrictions will probably go down then. SNK doesn't own Dolphin Blue; would be nice though...dave4shmups wrote: That's too bad that hasn't done so well; it looks quite fun! Dolphin Blue would have been a great game without some stupid slow-down issues: of the nasty kind: picture the game slowing down and suddenly going back at the right speed, and you get killed because of the sudden change of framerate and the "wtf is going on?!" effect.
Aside that, the game is a Metal Slug clone, done by some of the Metal Slug crew (the core 4 or 5 people who started at Irem with r-type 2 and did In he hunt, basically). Not unfun (it has an interesting scoring system, a charge shot and whatnot), but it really suffers from slowdown. So, 0001% probablities of a port.

How did you find this? I have been asking for the credits to Dolphin Blue for sometime, but no Atomiswave owner will bother to help me. I have all the Metal Slug credits written down.Randorama wrote:Aside that, the game is a Metal Slug clone, done by some of the Metal Slug crew (the core 4 or 5 people who started at Irem with r-type 2 and did In he hunt, basically).
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

I remember "Akio", "Susumu" and maybe "Ai Ai!" being the credits, perhaps "Wanderer"?. Perhaps there where the two designers in the credits as well...i can't recall well (it's been a while and i credit-fed only once), but i think that at least Akio (or whoever was the lead programmer/designer behind the aformentioned titles) who in Dolphin Blue.

Wait a minute-doesn't Sega own the rights to Atomiswave now? Why would SNK-P be involved in any ports, then?LoneSage wrote:There won't be any AW ports to the DC because all of the ports go to the PS2. It would be a ridiculous move, especially financially.
SNK-P's games are basically the only AW games being made now, so...
At any rate, it's too bad there's no video footage of Dolphin Blue, at least. I can handle some slowdown in a borderliner, so long as it's not as bad as SNES Gun Force. (BLAH!

Didn't know there was an Atomiswave light-gun game! The cabs themselves are very impressive, and unlike any other arcade cabs I've ever seen! I did find some forums dedicated to the hardware yesterday: www.atomiswave.org

It's only marginally better. Which is a shame, else it would have been a great game.dave4shmups wrote:

@Neon, so SNK-P would have to approve/do a home port of this game, then?

SNK-P didn't develop Dolphin Blue, Sammy did. If Sammy wanted to port Dolphin Blue, they would have done it by now.dave4shmups wrote: @Neon, so SNK-P would have to approve/do a home port of this game, then?
Don't quote me on this one, but from what I hear, Sammy's abandoned the AW i.e. not making anymore games for it. SNK-P is the main developer of AW games now.

Gotcha Ganelon. It is easy to get just about every AW home port, but it's just too bad that, AFIK, they are all vs. fighters-Dolphin Blue didn't make it out, and niether did Ranger Mission.Ganelon wrote:Dave, I mentioned that in the 4th post...![]()
Anyway, I've heard that rumor of discontinued support as well and it does make sense. After all, Sega has Lindbergh for its fancy stuff.
Also, I just realized that it's so easy to get every AW home port; I have just about all of them already.

Ok, so I have a DC and PS2-which is the best Atomiswave fighter to start out with-if you haven't played vs. fighters in a while?

Thanks, but any domestic reccommendations? My PSTwo is US-NTSC, and isn't modded.Ganelon wrote:I'm quite happy they're all fighters.![]()
Anyway, I'd strongly suggest NBC (NeoGeo Battle Coliseum) for the JP PS2. It's easy enough for beginners to get into, large enough not to get boring quickly, new enough not to get stale, and interesting enough that you'll have fun.

I've read reviews of Isuka stating that it's not up to par with the rest of the GG series, but yeah, IIRC, there are at least several domestic AW home ports-the entire GG series, for one.Acid King wrote:Guilty Gear Isuka...Ganelon wrote:IINM, there aren't any domestic home-released AW ports...

Isuka was the only Guilty Gear that appeared on Atomiswave hardware that got a home port at all. The rest of the games in the series that made it to consoles are all for NAOMI/NAOMI GD-ROM in the arcade, or were designed from scratch for the home consoles.dave4shmups wrote:I've read reviews of Isuka stating that it's not up to par with the rest of the GG series, but yeah, IIRC, there are at least several domestic AW home ports-the entire GG series, for one.

I'd really like to try Rumble Fish, but I don't know if I want to change the 60 bucks for the J-PS2 version. I wonder if SNK-P is going to port Samurai Spirits Tenkaichi to the Xbox for the states.J-Manic wrote:I hope Neo Geo Battle Coliseum gets released over here in the states. I don't care which console it's on, just as long as we see it in the states. The same thing goes for the new Hokuto No Ken fighter. That game looks freakin awesome!!
