Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze is very fun.
The level design is ace and "gimmicky" in all the *right* ways.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Yeah, it has a lot of variety without being obnoxious about it.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Agreed! I have a friend who spent a couple years teaching in Japan, and he has a Japanese Wii U and a bunch of titles. He and I played a bunch of DKCR:TF, and it is pretty awesome. That's on my short list for future Wii U purchases, as is Smash, SM3DW, and a couple others. I'm looking forward to LEGO Dimensions and also Splatoon.Lobinden wrote:Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze is very fun.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I expected that Shin'en had abandoned the Wii U for PS4 development, and that FAST Neo was being moved over. They'd never once released a game on a non-Nintendo platform until Nano Assault Neo X.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Its hard to determine whether the PS4 release of Nano Assault NEO-X actually worked out for them. Granted globally the PS4 seems to have an install base that is more than twice that of the Wii-U but I wouldn't think that "Nano Assault NEO-X" is a crowd-pleaser and since February it had to compete with Super Stardust Ultra, an established PSN franchise. They seemed to want to spin up the hype machine with the screenshots last September (which coincided with their "Art of Balance" Wii U release). Then things got strangely quiet - probably because of the focus on the "Nano Assault NEO-X" PS4 release. But things stayed quiet. I guess it is possible that they took some time to streamline development for a possible dual-platform release; there is an opportunity there: no "F-Zero" on Wii U and no "Wipeout" on PS4. Abandoning the Wii U version outright may be politically awkward.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I'm kinda bummed out by the situation with the Wii U this year. The release schedule has been and in the future appears to be.. barren. Sure, there are games coming up, but very few titles one would consider "AAA". Yoshi? Meh. Kirby? Meh. Mario Maker? Looks cool, but.. meh.
Am I missing something? The only thing I can think of that gets me excited is Xenoblade Chronicles X, and I'm beginning to wonder if that's even going to hit this year. I know last year was a little dry, but damn.. We at least had a AAA title or two each quarter.

I totally agree. I am surprised this game didn't get noticed more when it hit. It's such a good game and an excellent follow-up to the Wii original. It's a must-have, IMO, for the Wii U.Lobinden wrote:Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze is very fun.

Splatoon, Devil's Third, and Star Fox are all supposed to be released this year.Austin wrote:I'm kinda bummed out by the situation with the Wii U this year. There's also SMT x FE, but that turned out to be a total sham.

I think they're quietly killing it off, to make way for their next system.
I wouldn't expect a whole lot more, after this year. I don't expect a whole lot this year, either.
Which is a shame.

Hah, I'm still not sure what to think of #FE. I was expecting something completely different but the game looks like tons of fun for a few drunk weekends.Pretas wrote: There's also SMT x FE, but that turned out to be a total sham.
Also, let's not forget the western release of Project Zero U.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Possible, but I don't think matters are that "simple" this time around. If anything the "NX" announcement seemed forced, possibly to keep the stock holders happy.evil_ash_xero wrote:I think they're quietly killing it off, to make way for their next system.
How is Nintendo going to sell the "NX" hardware:
- To people who had faith in Nintendo and purchased a Wii-U since the end of 2012? Given what has happened to the Wii-U up until now they might be less "faithful" this time around.
- To people who never bothered to purchase a Wii-U in the first place? It's likely they'll ignore the "NX" as well.
In the meantime Nintendo better keep their existing Wii-U user base happy with the type of games that Nintendo is known for - otherwise there may not be anyone left to extol the virtues of owning a "Nintendo dedicated video game system" on their "online membership service" to those "smart-device-only" members.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
It definitely feels strange how quiet this year is shaping up to be on the wii u given the huge bump in great games and hype it got last year. I really thought Nintendo would build on that.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I'm going with the hivemind instinct that the NX will be a hybrid console + handheld system meant to succeed both the Wii U and 3DS. Zelda U will probably end up both as a Wii U release and a NX launch title, much like Twilight Princess.
I don't know how many major releases you need in a year for a system to not be "quiet." To me, 2015 looks like it will be the most interesting and active year of the Wii U's life so far, even with Smash 4 and Bayonetta 2 having launched last year. My only lingering concern is that Star Fox will end up an episodic downloadable affair, as Miyamoto strongly hinted towards.
The almost total loss of multiplatform support was an inevitability that should be accepted, since maintaining it would have just meant further prolonging the time that current-gen projects have been forcibly held back by the need to fit within 360/PS3 standards. There hasn't been a Nintendo console suited for being someone's "primary" system since the SNES, and no one should have expected that to change.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Definitely how I've felt about Nintendo since the Game Cube years. How many games do we really need again? Ps3 and Xbox 360 may have had more games technically, but I ended up owning the same quantity of titles for all 3 systems in the long run (much less for the 360).Pretas wrote:I don't know how many major releases you need in a year for a system to not be "quiet."

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
After reviewing once again if I want to invest in the Wii U I decided to back off from it. Not enough software to me to warrant the hardware investment. The 3DS is a much lower cost of investment with more software for me to play on it.
With the coming of the NX system I really don't want to invest in the Wii U.

These are my thoughts exactly. I just expected them to build on that excitement from last year and really keep the momentum going. Maybe they will surprise us at E3, but I'm not holding my breath.Immryr wrote:It definitely feels strange how quiet this year is shaping up to be on the wii u given the huge bump in great games and hype it got last year. Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Maybe we'll end up with a few games that are on the NX and the Wii U at the same time .. similar to what they did with Twilight Princess on the Gamecube and Wii.
It will definitely leave a sour taste if it looks like Nintendo is trying to do a cut-and-run on the system. Especially after they tried so hard to upsell it as a good deal despite being basically last gen hardware.

They held the release of the cube version so people would buy a wii for the game
I'm still bitter about that
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Would you rather they had canceled the GC version entirely, and you were forced to play it with the shittiest waggle controls of any first-party Wii release, while the game is mirrored like a 90's American manga volume? I doubt it.Shelcoof wrote:What they did with twilight princess was inexcusable

BTW, Projects Dolphin, Revolution and Cafe were all announced long before we knew anything about the GC, Wii or Wii U. Nintendo laying their cards on the table with the NX this early is nothing new.

I haven't played any of the Fatal Frame games, and this one looks like it might be a bit heavy on the "fan service" angle, but it looks genuinely creepy and worth checking out.Teufel_in_Blau wrote:Also, let's not forget the western release of Project Zero U.

If you mean the sexy outfits, then you can relax. Those are only available after you played trough the game at least once. And I highly doubt that those will be available in the western version anyway. They cut out the 'risky' outfits for baka gajins in the past already.
Personally, I would love see those outfits to stay in the game tho.

I'm pretty sure if Nintendo could have gotten away with it they would have. But everyone knew that game was already completed and if they did cancel it...Nintendo would have experienced a ton of outrage by loyal fans.Pretas wrote:Would you rather they had canceled the GC version entirely, and you were forced to play it with the shittiest waggle controls of any first-party Wii release, while the game is mirrored like a 90's American manga volume? That said I am at least happy it was released on the GC.. love the C stick for the camera.. The game was disappointing though for a Zelda game... Great game just fell short for me as a Zelda game.

I'm just glad the game got released myself. It's not like Nintendo is the only company that pushes games to other platforms late in a system's life. SoA was the worst offender with Shenmue II. Promising a US DC release and then cancelling the US DC version, leaving a hockey game as the last first party published US release for DC.
I think he's more referring to how the girl goes out into the rain without a jacket or umbrella, lets her outfit (including a white shirt) get wet, and doesn't even change her clothes before going back out, also sans umbrella or jacket. Not to mention that she lets her camera get wet too (being a supernatural camera, it probably works in the rain, but it's generally not good practice for a camera, unless it's a special waterproof camera).Teufel_in_Blau wrote:If you mean the sexy outfits, then you can relax. Oh man don't get me started on Shenmue II... I was a die hard DC fanboy back in the good old days. luckily for me though the Pal version was still being released. I'm super greatfull for that version... especially the Japanese voice and English Subs... feel sorry for those who bought it in NA and had English voice onlyBrianC wrote:

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Yeah, this is kind of where I was coming from. Of course, if you look at screenshots of the Japanese version that's been released, there are a number of scenes where there are hardly any clothes, so I'm guessing, as was mentioned by Teufel_in_Blau, those screen snaps are from a "New Game +" mode. In any event, it looks like it could be interesting.BrianC wrote:I think he's more referring to how the girl goes out into the rain without a jacket or umbrella, lets her outfit (including a white shirt) get wet, and doesn't even change her clothes before going back out, also sans umbrella or jacket. Good thing the game is in 60 Hz and works with the DC-X disc! The cases were somewhat disappointing. I put the discs in separate cases because of the way the holder is made. At least the cases look nice.Shelcoof wrote: Oh man don't get me started on Shenmue II... Edit: I had the cases inside the box and it's been so long since I have used them, I forgot it was two cases.

Shin'en FAST Racing NEO site was updated June 3.
http://fast.shinen.com/neo/
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/0 ... the_garage
http://ign.com/articles/2015/06/03/will ... our-hearts
Since Sony disbanded Studio Liverpool after Wipeout 2048 (2012) a PS4 port of FAST Racing NEO would seem logical - BUT the fact that Sony gutted their franchise may simply indicate that futuristic anti-gravity racing doesn't resonate with the majority of the PSN audience - and Nintendo sitting on F-Zero seems to concur. Still seems like Sony squandered Psygnosis.

- Added alpha build screen shots.
- "June" gameplay videos still pending.
- Stated release is a non-specific "in 2015" (interpretation: still a lot of work to do).
- So far Wii U is still the only announced platform.

Really surprised they didn't show this in the E3 direct. It would have at least given something to fans looking for an F-Zero like game.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
FAST Racing NEO (lol at those caps) is probably going to get ported to PS4. It'll have its own receptive audience on Playstation because of the Euro Wipeout crowd. Nano Assault NEO ended up that way, breaking Shin-en's 13-year streak of Nintendo exclusivity.
Track design looks nearly nonexistent compared to F-Zero and Wipeout, though. Barely a slope or a curve in sight. At least it's good looking, and I guess that's all that really matters for a lot of people who play modern driving/racing games. I didn't play the original WiiWare FAST Racing, which looks thoroughly bland and mediocre.
Wonder if F-Zero Climax will ever end up on the US Virtual Console. There's nothing that absolutely needs to be translated, and GP Legend's VC release proved that the anime rights aren't an issue. Of course, there wouldn't be any way to use its multiplayer functions or share track editor data.
