BVM-D20F1E loud and flickery

Hi,

I bust got the Sony BVM-D20F1E. E means Europe and D that the 42D Card is pre installed. The Monitor came also with a mounted controll unit. Its a sweet package. But basically its the samw as the BVM-20F1U everybody is talking about.

However I have two issues:

1) The Monitor is loud. As soon as I switch the Power Supply on (not the monitor itself) I hear some fan. I have not read about this before.

2) The Image is flickering, already in the monitor settings. Its way better when I switch it to red only. So far I only tested the wii and on letters it has lines running from top to bottom, I do not know how to explain correctly. the image itself stay stills, its more like a wave

The seller says the monitor is fine and it only shows 6500H of runtime in the menu.

I think the HD-SDI board got a fan. If you pull this board, it should be quiet.

Main difference between the BVM-20F1 and the D20F1 is that the D20 accepts 31khz component and RGB signals, while the 20F1 is 15khz-only.

Yes you seem the be right. The noise comes from the bkm-42hd.

Today the flickering was not noticable me.

I guess I got a really nice monitor, I am just a little bit excited.

Has anybody ever tried adding a front glass to the bezel? I think it would look cool.

Why would you want to do that? The only thing that would achieve is to cause issues as the light gets refracted through the 2nd layer of glass. Also light reflection might be another issue.

Just for the opticas. B&Ochave front glasses and the are ok. I guess you are right though.

B&O sets just use those glasses for two reasons: 1) To look futuristic and flat (it doesn't really protect the CRT tube); and 2) to make a place to put anti-glare coatings / tints on. There's no other benefits. CRT tubes can come with anti-glare coatings from the factory, as is usually done on Sony sets.

If you used a B&O in a room with well-controlled lighting, it could be best to take the glass off as anti-glare coatings or tints always come at some cost of sharpness (diffusion-type coatings) or brightness (smoked / tinted glass). Especially the darkened front glass types make the CRT work harder to put out the same brightness.

For your BVM, it's set up perfectly from the factory. Just don't scrape the front of the monitor and do make sure it's set up where bright lights don't reflect across the tube (and in a darker room you can turn the brightness down, prolonging tube life).

I still hve a few questions. Regarding serial number:

Under the bezel, in the menu and over the controller port on the back there is the same serial number.
But when i open the top plate there is a different serial number. it is higher by 3 digits.
Why is there a different serial number?


The menu shows only 6000 h of operation, can that be true?
