WE ARE DOOMED - PS4

Post by system11 »

Imagination is such a hard thing, isn't it? I remember when twinstick shooters were a near forgotten genre, and now you can't move for the things.

Another new one on the PS4 today (that makes 7 that I can immediately recall, although there may be more), mentioning it because I found it strangely relaxing and enjoyable. Graphics are pretty clean, music is nice, having a limited range continuous laser makes a change, not terribly expensive either.

Over-psychadelic. Me loves :D and the BGM is awesome. And then I realize I don't own a PS4 :|

Another vapid display of epileptic colors and grade school geometry for stoned hipsters to stare at while mindlessly twiddling an analog stick or two. I've heard that "pew pew laser gun" sound effect in like a million throwaway Flash games, which this essentially is.

Geometry Wars started it all, but I blame Super Hexagon for making this crap trendy again.

I've tried playing these kinds of games before, but... there's just so many damn colors and particle effects and such! I kinda go cross-eyed after a while.

I guess this is what my parents felt trying to watch me play Sonic the Hedgehog without throwing up, or how my sister feels watching me play CAVE games or Crimson Clover. Just... @.@ how do u plae theez?!

Geometry Wars does that to me, too many particle effects, this one just seems to work for me. I'm enjoying it quite a bit now.

Just because something has derivative elements, why does it automatically become crap in your opinion?

During gaming's prized era the derivative nature of software was at its peak. There may be 7 twin stick shooters knocking around, but that's nothing compared to 6 years of Mario platform game clones, Tetris wannabees and a million SF2 rips - or even today's endless FPS production line.

You seem to be a hard line fascist when it comes to any form of independently developed gaming. You want to live solely in a world of 500 member teams and 100 million dollar budgets?

Let people be creative and have a go. It's not hurting anyone.

Not sure who this army of "stoned hipsters" is anyway. Sounds like a lot of strawmanning to me.

I'm not a big twinstick fan, but the game may or may not be fun depending on how well designed it is. I know aesthetics are important to some people, but honestly, if the subtle differences a game offers compared to its predecessors are enough to create a unique play style, then that's worth over looking audiovisual complaints IMO.

Cho Ren Sha 68k's one background might turn off some, but it's still one of my favorite shmups of all time that offers a style of play that I haven't found anywhere else.

Negativity aside, the arena shooters, often made by folks unfamiliar with the genre, are getting pretty tiresome.

I enjoy smartphone shmups more than twinstick "shmups". Just sayin.
