Geometry Wars started it all, but I blame Super Hexagon for making this crap trendy again.
Just because something has derivative elements, why does it automatically become crap in your opinion?
During gaming's prized era the derivative nature of software was at its peak. There may be 7 twin stick shooters knocking around, but that's nothing compared to 6 years of Mario platform game clones, Tetris wannabees and a million SF2 rips - or even today's endless FPS production line.
You seem to be a hard line fascist when it comes to any form of independently developed gaming. You want to live solely in a world of 500 member teams and 100 million dollar budgets?
Let people be creative and have a go. It's not hurting anyone.
