Flame Zapper Kotsujin Soundtrack - DONE!

Post by ptoing »

EDIT: I know this is a very old thread, but I just went through my dropbox and stumbled over this zip and figured that since dropbox changed some stuff about how links work it might not work anymore on here and I was right. So I migrated the zip over to MEGA instead to preserve this for now.

OK, everything reripped and such. 2 "Discs", Stereo and Mono. Click image to download.

If you got any input for changes please let me know.

Not sure if That's the full soundtrack.

Thanks. Bookmarked, will check later. But it has more than 4 stages at least, so this might just be partial.

Yeah, this definitely is not the full soundtrack. Ripping it myself atm. Will post link to .zip with all music once I am done editing it.

OK, ripped all the songs using the Anex86 Emulator and Audacity, and did editing as I saw fit. Normalizing, fade outs, what have you. I also edited the tags properly, tho I made the assumption that the tracks which were not listed on the site KAI linked me were by the other composer mentioned in the game. I set the artists accordingly. If anyone has better info, please let me know so I can update this stuff.

I also took some slight liberty with the order of the tracks.

Input welcome.

Old link removed.

Sounds really great to me. I really need to give X68000 emulation a try, so many shmups...
Might want to throw a custom cover in the zip, so it looks nice in foobar :)

Yeah, it is an awesome soundtrack.
It's not x68k, it's PC-98.

Updated the .zip with cover art.

There are a whole bunch of versions of the PC-98 series. Last one was released in 2000. And Kotsujin came out around the same time as Cho Ren Sha, which is for the x68k.

Cool. I won't complain about having this!

The PC-98 really needs its own thread. There's a handful of decent non-Touhou shmups for the thing and they need love.

I feel like a dick for asking, but could you re-rip it with a different emulator? Anex86's sound emulation is really shoddy. I recommend Neko Project 21.

I wondered if Anex was really the best choice for this, but I'm happy with whatever.

I will look into Neko Project. If it sounds a lot better, sure, I will re-rip. Probably not today tho.

OK, so I need some help, because I can not get this to run in Neko Project.
When I open the hdi file as one of the drives and reset, it either does some loading but no game, or it tells me to "please set the system disk".

Edit: OK, got it to run. I have to say that I do not hear too much of a difference if any. Will have a closer listen.

It's hard to notice if you don't know what to look for. Often Anex makes the 'rough' sounds too rough (the op1 feedback is too strong) which is the single most notable error, but it does have plenty of other flaws. As an avid fan of the series of sound chip that was used in PC-98, I know far too much about how these things sound and work. None of the PC-98 emulators are actually right, but Neko Project is definitely the closest to correct. :)

Seeing as we share OCD when it comes to certain things I will see that I can re-rip this sometime next week.
Of course recording from real hardware would be best, but alas, I don't have that.

edit: ty you are awesome

Yeah, I was gonna rip the mono ones, I realised a couple days ago that they are pretty different. And the looping probably makes sense too, gonna do that. 5 second fadeouts are not problem either. Thanks for the input :)

Quite busy with work atm, so it will take a while. But it's gonna happen.

Edit: Working on it right now, ripping the mono tracks. I will probably rip them all now, and then edit them over the weekend.

OK, I know it has been a while. Previously I was super busy (still kinda busy) so nothing got done. And in the meantime I lost the old stuff in a HD crash (always fun when that happens, got better backup now, whee).

So I just started ripping again, using Neko Project 21 and keeping your wishes in mind too, Despatche. I will rip everything today and maybe also do the editing later today.

I think that I will use ogg instead of mp3. I reckon everyone should be fine with that, right?

EDIT:
Everything is ripped and stored. Just need to edit stuff now and make convert.
There is one little conundrum. Track 08 -TRY, sounds exactly the same in Mono and Stereo. It is identical. So the question is whether to leave it out of one of the folders (as there will be two) or have it duplicated? :o

have it duplicated for consistency's sake imo. down the line, a LOT of people will think that TRY is some exclusive track

i thought they were different though

Little update.

Everything has been ripped and the basic editing (cutting silence, making sure stuff that loops, loops twice, 5 sec fadeout, 2 secs silence at the end of each song) is done.

I reckon I will have the rest done sometime next week.

Yeah, E.N.K.A. is my fave track too.

I am done with the stereo stuff, just need to do the mono stuff now, which I will probably do later today. And then I shall put it on my dropbox.
