Congrats Shepardus, that is a serious notch on the belt (and by far the hardest of the 4 main yagawa clears imho).

Congrats tofarawaytimes, Gigawing was one I could never quite achieve (damn slowdown missing from the DC port accckk). Was that cps2, emulation, or DC ver? A superb game, and very challenging clear nonetheless.

Thanks everyone for the applause on my Batrider achievement. I know chum has also cleared with every character, speak up if anyone else has bothered (Del, Plasmo, Icarus, Noah?) I’m sure Aquas could do it if he felt like it :D

I’m not sure what is next, thinking about returning to Dimahoo which I still haven’t cleared.

I played on the MAME version. I kept getting so close on the TLB but that last part is ridiculous. I was finally able to push through this time.

Congrats on the APB clear(s) as well. You've really got that game mastered inside and out. And what an awesome game too!

It's so close I'm sure I'll be coming back for it before long, as there are a couple places where I could easily improve my score by a lot, such as the stage 2 and 4 bosses and the stage 4 medal rails. For now I want to 1cc Battle Bakraid Advance course to round out the (Raizing) Yagawa games, but after that I want to come back to either Batrider or Garegga.

My BlaZeon SNES 2 loop clear on hard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QH61YSRct8

Well...this game isn't the best, in fact it's probably the worst game I've ever cleared. It makes D-Force look absolutely amazing in comparison.

Awwwww. While it can't be denied that the game has basically no level design and colossal stretches where nothing happens at all, I do think that some of the boss fights are kinda neat. And I absolutely love the soundtrack - Fighting Machine and Battle of Silence in particular are just grand.

Oh, and as always, good job! Game's not all that easy, mostly because you get so bored by the long gaps that you (well, I at least) are prone to getting killed immediately by some of the fiercer bosses on account of no remaining concentration.

I agree, the music was the one big positive of this game, which was surprising considering the rest of it is so poor It's actually a bit harder than it looks, mostly because of the crazy large hitboxes.

I feel like this game had a very cool concept with the ability to morph into various enemy types, but they utterly failed to make the game engaging. If they had just added more enemies or cut down the empty stretches it would be a lot better. I just took a look at the arcade version and it looks so much better than the SNES version.

Thanks to Kollision's brilliant video I was finally able to clear Violent Soldier on the PCE myself. I gave up on it a few times now, but with the guidance of the aforementioned educational material I managed to do it in just a couple of hours.

Image

Now I'm really and officially done with HuCard, MD/GEN and SFC/SNES shooters, I beat almost every single one of those. I will tackle Spriggan Powered and Battle Squadron at some point in time, but not now - I really can't stand either of those. It feels extremely good to have beaten so many games on those systems, it was quite a ride. :D My next goal is to fill out the gaps in the PCE CD library; I also want to dedicate more time to my PS1 and PS2.

Thanks for the kind words, guys, I really appreciate it. :) "Inner completionist" is a very euphemistic way to put it, but I suppose that "compulsive" does not have the same ring to it. Then again some of the terrible games were so weird that it was worth the while to play through them, I do have a certain soft spot for arcane barrel bursts like Adventurous Boy, Barunba or Deep Blue - heck, Tekkaman Blade for example is amazingly bad.

I do have at least one picture for every beaten game that shows my score (with the exception of a few NES games that I played way back when) so I might look into that. Unfortunately a lot of shooters during that time period are flat out broken, even some of the great games suffer from infinite checkpoint milking, destructible projectiles or endlessly spawning enemies. But that never stopped me to spam a lot of scores in the local highscore section, so...

Bloody hell perikles your 1cc list is crazy!! Major congrats on all of your achievements! I've been messing about with some md shooters recently... As much as I enjoy them, I also find them really frustrating in that if you screw it up late and lose all power ups recovery is hard as hell even you have a ton of lives...

I've been grinding the shit out of everything that's in DOJ Black first loop and today I got this:

Image

Yeah nothing special, but I never looped anything of substance before so I was pretty excited about it.
I assume 2-3 is where the real challenge starts.

@Jonst: Thank you for the gentle words! I can definitely understand how somewhat harsh (checkpoint) recoveries might ruin the fun of some games, I still vividly remember the ever-building frustration when I first played good ol' R-Type. Nowadays I actually quite enjoy figuring out convalescence strategies - as long as it is reasonable, that is. It can be immensely rewarding to fight back against overwhelming odds, especially if you have to improvise on the spot.

Yeah I know a lot of them have broken scoring, but I'm still curious to see those scores! I wonder if you have more clears than Kollision? You guys seem to have done almost all of the console stuff.

Personally, I'm slowing working my way through the SNES library right now, trying to clear them all on the highest difficulties. Some of these are proving to be way harder than I would have thought (Strike Gunner STG I'm looking at you).

Nah, not even close. I'll hopefully break the 200 mark in the foreseeable future, Kollision is close to 400 if I'm not mistaken. I do have a few more clears regarding the HuCard/MD/SNES trio, but he also played a ton of NES, SMS, PCE CD, Sega CD/32X, FM Towns, Neo Geo, PS1/2/3, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, PSN and XBOX360 (including XBLA and XBLIG) shooters - I highly doubt I'll ever come close to his territory. :)

Yeah, I saw your video on that game, it really makes a huge difference if you play it on Normal/2 or Otaku/4. Great weapon distribution and routing by the way. :D As far as clears on the default settings are concerned I'd say that Acrobat Mission is probably the hardest shooter on the system, Kidou Soukou Dion/Imperium is pretty rough as well. Spriggan Powered is likely up there, too, but I can't say for certain since I haven't beaten it yet - it just rubs me in every wrong way possible.

Gunbird has no loop requirements so I guess I wasn't really counting that. In any case, thanks.

EoSD or IN?

PCB was my first Lunatic clear too. I always loved PCB's patterns, very fun. Lunatic's probably more forgiving than the other games because you've got some very potent abilities (on-purpose cherry border breaking, Sakuya B generally being stupidly awesome at everything).

Today I got to experience the joy and disappointment of looping DoDonpachi by accident. Was just messing around and decided to 1-All the game with every shot type. Accidentally triggered the loop via hitcount on my first run with A-S. When I realized I was going to trigger the loop, I then proceeded to screw up EVERYWHERE and die with SO MANY BOMBS in stock. I entered the loop with no extra lives in stock and died before the 2-1 midboss with like 5 bombs. ;_;

Edit: yet another 1CC I feel kinda dirty about, 1-All'd DOJ for the first time while messing around with B-Shotia. I had wanted to do it first with Laser but that fullscreen shot coverage...

DOJ BL 1-ALL!

Image

I felt like colonel kusoplay but it's not often I get 1CCs so I'm very happy to get the job done (with no lives or bombs remaining, yikes). But this game is super fun for survival. I don't know about scoring, I've not yet peered into that void, but I've had an absolute blast just trying to kill that evil moon bee. I did it!

Got the Jamestown Legendary1cc tonight. Not hard at all (first time in the last stage) but a very fun game with a lot of scoring potential. I might stick around and see what I can do... pity the official leaderboards are such a mess, I'd like to see what's been done with it.

I'm certainly not done with the game, but I don't know what my next goal should be - I have to consider my overall shmup goals too, and right now there's a big gaping Psyvariar Revision shaped hole in my 1CC list. But it is very fun. And while actually taking on the loop seems to be a goal so remote as to make achieving it borderline heroism, I can see now how, by determination and patience, I might take pleasure in taking some small steps up that mountain.

Against my own better judgment I decided to clear both Battle Squadron (MD/GEN) and Spriggan Powered (SFC), both of which are/were pretty painful experiences. I thought it'd be a neat idea to add together three collages out of all the clear pictures; I always tried to get some heroic image of a crushed final boss, but some games don't allow for that or I simply was too slow, thus, there are a few rather boring score/ending/last stand pictures in some places, whereas some of the more dynamic impressions might not show my highest scores (I also only took one picture for V-V/Grind Stormer and Slap Fight/Special respectively even though one might count them as two different games).

But enough talk, have at you! Image (I pinched your awesome smiley, BIL, I hope you don't mind; I deemed it to be the most appropriate emotion for such a nerdy note )
