Gradius board game

Post by Minzoku »

Got it :D :D :D Here are some quick photos:

Box cover:
Image

PS2 as size reference (I forgot that, oh, yeah, Japan is SMALL... here I was expecting a Monopoly board for some reason):
Image

Game pieces:
Image

You can see in the third, there are little paper Moai heads :D and a not-yet-assembled Big Core toward the bottom. The four little Vic Viper pieces have their own stands, which is weird since that technically places them flying vertically through a horizontal map... you can see from the spec sheet in the middle that:

- normal shot fires two spaces forward
- missile fires two spaces diagonally down
- double fires two spaces diagonally up
- laser fires four spaces forward
- [there are no options... :(]

I haven't figured out what all the pieces are for, though from what I can tell, yes, they're all there except maybe an enemy somewhere. More when I can paste all the details together...

Edit: fixd broke imgs

Are the bars for the big core made up of seperate pieces or is it all one piece?

I was worried about assembling all the pieces ruining the "mintness", as well as not being able to disassemble them if I did, but it seems I have to disassemble them anyway, since there's literally NO ROOM for them in the box if I don't :| That's compact!

Image

This is the assembled Big Core, its level, the spinner, which I don't understand just yet... and my crusty computer desk... The Big Core has a little sliding part to hide gates that have been destroyed :)

On the back of the spinner is a diagram of the Vic Viper... apparently it's wider than it is tall? I'll scan in as many of the flat items as I can once I bother to get the scanner hooked up again :?

Heh heh, if you attend a shmupmeet in the future make sure to cart that along, I'm sure it'd be a big hit (if we could figure out how the rules work, heh heh).

Too bad it doesn't come with a voice box that says "Destroy them all!". That would rock!

This reminds me of my old Zaxxon board game. I'll have to raid the loft and see if I still have it.

I scanned in the board, which was a pain to do because it's a very awkward design and now refuses to lay flat... so the scan is quite a bit arse since I had to paste it together. [It's not worth getting TOO picky with that.] Click the picture to get a larger version :)

Also, the spec sheet on the back of the spinner:

Canard? Are they duck wings? :|

More to come ;)

Started scanning the manual, but I wanted to post pages as I translated them. Hoo, I wish I retained more Japanese than I have :( I can only work out one or two sentences in a sitting before going crazy...

Again, click the image for a larger view [corrections are appreciated as well!].

Ooo, resurrecting dead topic... :o Okay, I got around to scanning in the entire manual, if anyone wanted to help pick at translating it. I keep forgetting :?

Scanning in all the other flat bits at some point, perhaps later tonight!

Awesome! I love they way they incorporated the multi-directional firing in. I'm curious if the game is any fun or not. No matter what though, that's a damn sweet collector's item.
