How many shmup games do you need for Collectors credibilty?

Anyone can be a Shmup collector and go on ebay and click 'buy it now' and get a collection, even my Mum... I believe if you're a true fan of the genre appreciating how the games work after months of practice of a single game and understanding the intricacies of the design trumps simply buying lots of something and putting them on a shelf like trophies while they try to find more stuff to fuel the hoard.

From my experience the more Shmups someone has in their collection the less likely they are to fully appreciate them or get deep into a single game. They're never fully happy with what they have, they must have more, more the better. It's almost not about the actual games anymore but more about obtaining R@r0rz items to post on message boards. Sadly this appears to be the majority.

bare minimum is one game "package" already in good condition, that you keep in good condition as much as possible, that you actually like and play and maybe are even good at

if you can do this with multiple games, you are a lot of positive things

Unfortunately a lot of really good shooters (accounting for a range of tastes) are expensive too, no getting around it. Figure out what's going to make you happiest and go without the rest (or get them later on). Compromise is good. If you go too hardcore you might damage yourself irreparably and end up on Maury.
