Two hours in, my thumbs hurt and I still want to play. This game is great, like GW2 + Galaxies in one.
kid aphex wrote:There are a few minor design missteps, but they have to do mostly with navigating menus and the flow of the game modes.
(For example, re-starting a level is nowhere near as fast a process as GW2. Whether you've died, or are seeking to restart through the menu system the process just takes a few seconds too long, and makes playing for high-score a bit of a drag when compared to the almost non-existent Play-Die-Restart cycle of GW2)
Just as you die, for one second the X to restart is in the bottom left of the screen. Otherwise adventure has X to quickstart after first playing a level (with current loadout [haha 'loadout' in a shooting game?!]).

Wish it wasnt locked to 60FPS on PC. This is the type of game that can really benefit from 120FPS+, but maybe there is a cfg file workaround if it isnt hardcoded into the game engine

There was a fps unlock workaround posted in the steam game forum yesterday. Some manual change in the graphics card settings. I can look for it again later tonight if you don't find it.

Hoo the bosses require a lot of stars. This game is mondo and I can't wait for some dlc levels. BTW one level is free to dl through first few days of Dec. Also Xbox gets one unique too.

Question - have you put much time into Pacifism yet on GW3? Because... there's something that just feels off about Pacifism in this to me. I'd broken a billion once on GW2, and had to play and play just to break 100m on this (and the high score on the Steam leaderboard is a "mere" 300m right now). Maybe I'm rusty, but... nah. It kinda feels like they slowed down the spawn rate on the gates or something, once the screen starts filling with huge blobs it feels like there's nary a gate on the screen. Perhaps I've just been going through them too fast, but I don't think I changed my playstyle since GW2. Definitely can't compare these new scores to the old scores I guess.

Anyway I'm definitely having fun with the game and think it's definitely worth $15 for those on the fence. A lot of the Adventure levels are kinda hit or miss, but it certainly gives you plenty to do. I also REALLY don't like any of the new music, I want the old Deadline and Pacifism tunes back really bad. But otherwise, fun!

I'm LordBBH on Steam if anyone is looking for score rivals~

Really enjoying this, despite not liking GW 1&2 much. Adventure mode has some great levels. There are some bad ones (like a 10 minute deadline with infinite lives) but most are fun.

I've been concentrating on the boss levels so far, I think they're fun and pretty well designed. Just managed to get 1st place on the Steam leaderboard on all bosses excluding the last one.

Got over 8 million on the first boss, that probably took the most effort of all of them.

edit: got the best score on the final boss as well. very cool fight actually

It's kinda too bad the Steam sale started today. By the time it ends, GW3 will be pushed way off the new releases, so anyone who didn't see it yesterday will never know it exists.

Yeah. I've scored several billion on GW2's Pacifism. In GW3, I can't seem to break 100million.

The playfield feels smaller to me... or my 'character' feels larger?
Also, some of the hit detection is set up differently than GW2's Pacifism ... it's subtle, but noticeable.

Controls feel great, though.

I almost feel like enemies spawn a little bit quicker than in the first two games, thus making the game a little bit harder to react to but maybe I'm wrong idk

Please everyone judge this one by it's own merit, not minutely compared to the prior games. It's really good, sho is! Add me too, let's score compete suckas. GT is Iron Peach.

It's been a long time since I played Retro Evolved but this game seems much harder. I don't remember things ramping up so quickly in the older game. With this one you hit the 2 minute mark and things go crazy, and most of the time it gets so cramped the bomb becomes the only option. I'm certain the older game gave you more room to manoeuvre. Also I don't seem to be getting that awesome mega-laser that warps space and time.

Maybe I'm just rusty.

Same impression here. I did not play GW2, only Galaxies on Wii and DS, and base shot is definitely weaker that in the first episode.
Also, adventure levels are not meant to last for a long time. I find it annoying that most levels only play with one ship.

Maybe not. I found the price to a little too high, but am a huge fan of the serie and have wayyyyyy to much money.
If you're not in that case, maybe is it worth waiting for a price drop.

I think it's worth the $15 if you're a fan of the others. Myself personally I like the new visual style and the mix of gameplay from Geometry Wars 2 and Geometry Wars Galaxies on the Wii.

My only complaint is that it seems like enemies just pop up out of nowhere sometimes. Like, no spawn animation or anything, they are just there (where one millisecond before they were not). I have mostly been playing the Retro Evolved/Classic mode (no time limit). Anyone else have this issue? I'm playing via the XBone version.

I also found that ennemies sometimes spawn, maybe not out of nowhere, but certainly too fast.
Also, the ship's hitbox is huge.

I grabbed the update yesterday, did anyone else? It's quite refreshing these days to get such a lot of new content for free. Not sure if it's enough to get me back into the game (my friends all moved onto the PS4 long ago and I have no-one to compete against), but some of the new stuff is quite interesting. There's a mode called Scorpion which feels quite fresh - your ship trails a tron-style light beam which is your only means of killing the enemy. Hardcore mode should also sort the men from the boys.

All in all it now presents quite a decent amount of variety and challenge. The only thing I could possibly want now is a Vita port.

Was anyone able to get the new 'sweep' drone? It says it's unlocked at 70 stars in adventure mode, I'm on over 120 at the time of getting the update but it's still locked. Unless that's an error, and they mean you need 70 stars in the new thingy mode (forget what it's called)? :|

For some reason you need to finish a normal adventure level (or even unlock a new star?) to get the new unlocks.

The new levels are pretty fun, new enemy types and game modes are a nice addition. There's also a couple levels which really force you to use the sweep drone. Bosses were a bit disappointing, but not complaining about a free expansion.

Ah cheers that worked, I didn't need to get a new star either.

Yeah looks like the sweep drone will be very handy in King mode, may have to revisit some of those adventure mode King levels with this one :)

I'll probably play this more tonight on 360. If there's anybody left, friend request DJ Incompetent. I'd like to leaderboard chase on the arcade modes.
