So some idiots decided that trying to ban 100+ DOA costumes would help

Dumb.

The attractive girls and pretty costumes are part of DOA, always have been. Some people in the DOA tournament community decided that others don't take the game seriously because of the costumes, presumably based on the constant boob jokes.

Of course now people are rightly making fun of them for thinking this would make any kind of difference at all. The people making dumb jokes can and should be ignored, they're not interested, they never will be interested, so it's best not to cause drama within what is a small but dedicated community. That's the best way to lose credibility.

Additionally things have been added to the soft ban list almost at random. Some things which expose lots of skin are allowed, some aren't based on a ridiculous notion of which are 'sexualised'. A shambles.

Oh my god, the irony of you being the one against the limiting of people's expression due to dumb complaints.

But on Dead or Alive, we're in agreement. It's a pathetic image, some guys going over digital women's wardrobes and banning outfits based on nebulous moral criteria (or how much they make their crotches jump). And of course, no male costumes are banned, despite Jann Lee having one that's tight black undies and nothing else.

soft ban
more like hard ban right

But yeah, shit's retarded. Is this a thing because Western tourneys have always consisted of people wanking to bikinis? Is it so fucking difficult to load from a blank save that you felt the need to publicly tell everybody to not pick whatever you deem inappropriate from your own save file? Or is your effort at indirectly telling TN to cater their future DLCs to you worth another article on Shittaku and everyone else laughing their asses off at you?

I would tell this to FSD but common sense is a bannable(ha) offense there.

Oh, and let's kill these while costumes with physics and visibility issues are still all over the place. I'm already weeping for whoever had to fight Raidou in the new chinese stage. But I guess the listed costumes can severely impact gameplay as your opponent is manipulated into grabbing the wrong stick.

Yeah that's another one of the main objections people have raised - the tournament players don't usually pick that type of costume anyway, you rarely see them in ranked online play too.

I think they should stop adding more swimsuits and bikinis simply because there are already way too many of them. Cheap lazy 5 minute skins to sell and nothing more.

I've noticed on the Aksys Games release of the PS3 fighting game of "Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late", when booting it up for the very first time during game play, the default display setting is on "A" (which'll result in slight cut-off portions of both the top and bottom screen sections). Found out that the display setting at "G" makes sure that everything is displayed properly without that dreaded cut-off issues at hand (for that slick overall full widescreen presentation as it was intended to be). And the overall game engine is running at 60fps and in 720p format at best.

Yeah, a lot of fighters default to the full displayable area, not accounting for any overscan. Off-hand, I know that KOF11, KOF98UM, and KOF2002UM on PS2 default to this setting as well [under a different name].
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Someone on NeoGAF was spinning rumors about it a few months ago. It's really unlikely we'll see it outside of more cameos in other fighters, since Sega is downsizing and focusing on mobile/F2P games.

Tokido cuts better promos than Roman Reigns

Post by iconoclast »

The Red Bull Kumite (SF4 tournament) just ended and it was awesome. I didn't even get to see the whole thing, but there were lots of great matches with Nemo, Bonchan, Tokido, Daigo, Infiltration, Xian, etc. Nemo's Rolento is especially impressive if you haven't seen it before. I definitely recommend checking it out once they put up the archive or whatever.

I always saw the DOA guests as passing the torch and saying goodbye for that series.

I'd be happy with an HD remake of VF2 frankly.

I always had a hard time getting into it's contemporaries at the time, like DOA and Tekken.

the VF2 Port tot he PS3 isn't good enough? I thought it was a pretty nice port... a lot nicer than the Saturn port lol. Remember trying out the PS2 port ages ago but I don't remember that version very well.

We're talking about Virtua Fighter 2 right? I'm surprised you didn't even know it was ported to PS3.

The online is great its as good as Final Shodown.

Also the competition is full of guys that are way better than me. I can't believe how good they are... guess the guys I played back in the Saturn days weren't very good lol

Modern SNKP will whore their IPs out to any company that's offering them enough cash. KOF characters already showed up officially licensed in a Chinese 2D fighter and a Thai MOBA a while ago. This is also how the Neo Geo X fiasco came into being - Tommo just dumped enough money into their laps for them to fork over the Neo brand for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if SNKP eventually ended up getting bought out by a non-Japanese Asian megacorp like Tencent. Still, if it's helping to finance KOF XIV, it's hard to fault them too much for this practice.

Million, the current owners of the Double Dragon franchise, have been milking that series the exact same way for a long time now.

Seconded that the PS3/360 HD port of VF2 is top class in every respect, other than the absence of a training mode. Even lets you select between the 2.0 arcade version with rapid backdashing retained, or 2.1 where that exploit was fixed. It's still fairly active online, though almost everyone you'll find is an expert Japanese player with thousands of wins. Fighting Vipers and Sonic the Fighters got similar treatment on both platforms, as part of the Model 2 Collection line.

It was an eye opener on how simple in style VF2 felt and played. Very hard to describe.. its more like Super Turbo compared to Street Fighter IV. I'm a newb at the game so my understanding is quit limited but after playing some of these guys online you really see how deep the game is.

Its so simple but yet so deep... brings back old memories of the Saturn days :)
