Hello guys,
I'm currently using 2 LCD screens, one 24' 1080p and one 19' 1024p (for shooters).
I'm thinking of replacing them with a 27'/16:9/1440p since I have no room anymore for 2 screens and they are getting old.
Will it be as confortable as now to play shooters on a 27' if I keep it horizontally?
Do a 27' 1440p screen covers a 19' 1024p surface (in term of physical surface and resolution) ?
Thanks in advance.
What a shmup will look like on a 27' 1440p screen?

A 27" is approximately 59.5cm x 33.5cm big, your 19" should be 37.5cm x 30cm. So the picture will be slightly bigger. The dpi is higher than on a 24" 1080p screen though, so text will appear smaller. I'm using a 27" 1440p screen as my main monitor btw.

So it be as good as using 2 LCDs? I use the 1080p for horizontal games and the 1024p for vertical.blizzz wrote:A 27" is approximately 59.5cm x 33.5cm big, your 19" should be 37.5cm x 30cm. Can you take a screenshot of a shooters with blackbar on the right and left?
Thanks for your answer.

This should be less of an issue with newer operating systems - I think Windows 8 scales text well, and the upcoming 10 should do as well.blizzz wrote:The dpi is higher than on a 24" 1080p screen though, so text will appear smaller.
Doesn't apply to shmups, which if we mean MAME will just scale to the entire screen, just as well as 1080p, so playable (4:3 ratio) screen area is your only concern there.
You could try to look out for rotating stands, or a rotating VESA mount, if you spring for a panel type with wide viewing angles (i.e., not TN type).
