Cadillacs & Dinosaurs Bootleg Sound

Post by Richtr8 »

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post about this issue, but you guys seem fairly knowledgeable when it comes to arcade hardware, so I'm going to go ahead & assume 'Hardware' has a broader meaning than just shooting game hardware.

I recently came into a bootleg Cadillacs PCB. It's a pretty rough job as you can see below. The sound on the board sounds like it's using only the Yamaha chip (whichever one sounds like a mega drive), which is a life-ruining problem for me. The sound effects are all wrong, the music resets to the same track whenever a certain sound channel is used, etc. I'm assuming some pirates burned new ROMs for the B board of a cheaper CPS1 game, & I was wondering if there's any way I can restore the game's original sound via the same method. I'm worried that this board might lack the appropriate Q-Sound hardware, so if anyone's had any experience with CPS1 bootleg restoration, your input would be greatly appreciated.

If necessary I can get a video going, but I doubt it's that complex of a problem.

Thanks,
Richter.

Your missing the Q-sound board. It it sandwiched between the rom board and the main board. Without it, you will never have the proper sound.

If that's the case, would anybody be able to help me out with converting the board to a non-Q-Sound CPS1 game? Is there anything special I need to do outside of rewriting the EEPROMs & putting them in the right sockets?

Information on converting games is forbidden here, as is selling/buying them.
