I've just started to dig Twinkle Star Sprites for the Saturn recently. The combination 2P shooter-puzzler has really taken me some time to warm up to but I'm enjoying it well enough.
I have a question about the options... the main Game Start screen shows 4 options.
Game Start (which I assume is 'Sega Saturn' mode)
Arcade Start (which I assume replicates more of the slowdown)
Demo
Options
When I choose Game Start I'm presented with another selection screen of 3 large options - one green (to the left), blue (to the middle) and red (to the left). I can't select the red-one. The other two (blue/green) seem to affect how the story is shown. What are these options? Are the first two story-related only? What is the red option? (now that I type this, I'm thinking it may have something to do with a 2nd player - I don't normally keep the 2nd controller plugged in so maybe that's why it's not active).
Any help, as always, is appreciated. You guys always come through!

Once more the light shines brightly in sector 2814.

Green = Character Mode, Blue = Story Mode, Red = Competitive Mode.
Character Mode follows the story of whatever character you select, and by that meaning you'll get to see their ending if you finish the game.
Story Mode follows the story of Load Ran, complete with pre-match banter before character battles.
Competitive Mode is the game's Versus Play mode, so therefore this isn't selectable if there is no 2P setup present.
In either Story or Character Mode, if the other player presses Start, it becomes a 2P Versus match - with the winner continuing the game where they left off.

Re: Saturn Twinkle Star Sprites - Options
IIRC, "Saturn Mode" also has an extra character/stage in there someplace (I think the girl with the glasses with a panda is the extra char), along with maybe one or two other things. Also IIRC, I believe that the amount of slowdown is adjustable in the Options menu someplace, but I'm not positive.llabnip wrote:Game Start (which I assume is 'Sega Saturn' mode)

Saturn mode does add Meirin Kisaragi and her Principal Panda as the extra character.BulletMagnet wrote:IIRC, "Saturn Mode" also has an extra character/stage in there someplace (I think the girl with the glasses with a panda is the extra char), along with maybe one or two other things. In addition, the characters on character select and versus screen are larger, there is remixed music in the stages, and a few graphical enhancements. Also the "character mode" in Saturn mode has stories for everyone not just Ran. Some of them are a bit dicey...

As for removing slowdown, I believe you can remove the bomb slowdown, but that's it. The Dreamcast version allows you to remove all slowdown (which makes for some very hectic matches)
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.
