Do all Sony 14" TV's have service menu?
I want to get my 14" New old stock TV so that it displays RGB full screen. Currently about 6 or 7mm of the screen is black.
I have googled "service menu sony" but nothing i've tried works.
Perhaps its the way I press the buttons. It doesn't say if you have to press them altogether or one after the other.
An insight on how this is done would be beneficial no doubt.
Thanks for your input.
Richie.

Hey richie, as a next step you should share the model number.
The short answer is no, there are obviously sets that predate service menus, or solid-state electronics for that matter. It all depends on what you have. If you're lucky, a universal remote will let you in.

If you take the back case off the TV and look at the chassis you can check for trim pots. If there are potentiometers for V-Size and perhaps some geometry adjustments then you can adjust the image by turning the pots. No need for a service menu in this case.neorichieb1971 wrote:I want to get my 14" New old stock TV so that it displays RGB full screen. Currently about 6 or 7mm of the screen is black.

I will give it a good look over tomorrow and post pics.
Hopefully someone can give me the definitive way to get this working. The TV came straight out of the box 2 months ago. Its brand new never been used.. I doubt its a really early model, more likely early 2000's.

Some pics. Please let me know if the adjustment is a physical adjustment or a service menu adjustment.
Thanks.

Of course your Sony has a service menu. Just convergence and more advanced stuff (beam landing) is adjusted on the board.
To enter the SM you put the TV into standby, then you press info (that's the button under the 9), 5, Vol+ and on (that's the button under the mute button). In a row of course. If it worked your TV will switch on and display TT on top. With the menu button you can then enter the SM.

5 turns the TV on, so when I press on it goes off.
Will keep trying.

Seems a lot of people use this TV for RGB gaming and asked for help bringing up the OSD; Google brings up a lot.
This might help:

Cool. I did google "Sony service menu" for my TV for ages and never got that page up.
I will try it again tomorrow.
I'm going to have to get an aerial/antenna device though to get this to work right?

no, I don't think so. Pressing "5" on the remote shouldn't register if you got the timing right. And by pressing the display button the TV should turn on to the channel it was set to before (AV1 RGB for example).I'm going to have to get an aerial/antenna device though to get this to work right?

I got the TT up.. thanks for all your helps.
The actual combination is info, 5, vol+ and TV (Which is the squarish button).
When I tried it earlier the screen was shaking so badly I couldn't see the options very well. The TV has never been turned on before except once when I plugged my PS1 into it. So I will get out the PS1/Scart again and try adjusting the settings using something like Bubble Bobble.

You need an active source anyway to properly make any adjustments. Remember that PS1 does output in full 240p, while most other systems only output in 224p, so if you adjust the vertical height to match your PS1 games, you'll have borders on most other classic systems.

Re: Do all Sony 14" TV's have service menu?
None of the menu adjustments work on input mode.
However, I randomly pressed buttons and when in AV1 in TT mode you press the input button again, the image shunts almost perfectly to the centre. Turned off and on, it saved the setting. What a remarkable outcome.
Its not perfect, but its about 50% better than it was.
The border highlighted an issue with the tube, where the black border is not absolutely vertical. Its wider at the top than the bottom. When playing Bubble bobble just now you can tell that the image on the left is even from top to bottom, but on the right its not. However, I don't have a border now and thats the main issue I was trying to address. I'm not going all out to perfect something 15 years old.
The reason I wanted this TV is to play Genesis games. I don't mind playing svideo on my other systems and I have a bigger 25" Trinitron for that.

Re: Do all Sony 14" TV's have service menu?
There may be separate position settings for different inputs, and if you were sticking with one set while feeding input into another that might account for the lack of obvious changes. You will know whether or not my guess is true if the picture changes from input to input.
A copy of the service manual will be your guide there. You should be able to get it here.
