You got off easy. I was in the middle of a lengthy, multi-paragraph response quoting and responding to multiple people and posts in the thread. Just as I hit submit, he edited all his posts into "x" and thus got the thread locked.

Really, it should have set off some red flags when he posted in the general discussion forum instead of the developer discussion, that this guy wasn't remotely professional . How much effort can someone put into game development if they can't even be bothered to post in the right forum? I think most of the people responding probably knew this and did so because they had nothing better to do.

Some people just can't handle others disagreeing with them online. One's left to wonder how they survive face-to-face human interaction.

Haha, I was gonna post that in 'it made me smile..'

Speaking as one of the people who can't handle being disagreed with online, it is a strange problem. I once got in an argument with a fanboy on youtube, it was probably a 16 year old kid. It seemed like someone who'd just realised they're above average intelligence and wanted to flex those smarts everywhere. The kid had an answer for everything and would continue essay lengths responses after each of his points were systematically defeated.

The only winning move is to walk away here (I eventually did), but I'm the immature one really. I'm the one who was seething about it for days to come because some little shit on the internet wouldn't concede and say "I am sorry, you are correct."

I tell myself I've learned my lesson this time..

Websites displaying pictures or lists in obligatory '1 entry = 1 page to load' format.

Great for browsing a 'top 100' something. Yeah... no.

I consider it the the absolute most dumbass thing on the internet, and there's more and more of it.
Even worse than video autoplay.

The epitome of that shit trend is the website 'ranker' using some memory ogre software supposed to work using either clickable or keyboard arrows, but by any means doesn't.

It's especially annoying when they have ads on the pages, including ones that play sound automatically.

It's more of a problem on the iPad where the page crashes. I think it's either Answers.com or About.com that is the page in question, but don't visit those sites often since I rather just see a list. Also, adblock or no, it's still poor page design to literally splatter ads all over the page.

Passive aggressive types who live the high life by defending highly-paid abusers living on the public dole (that's the license fee) at the cost of their own community respect.

I can't help it that pointing out that Clarkson is a terrible human being who needs to be fired - indeed "shot in the middle of the face" if we were to apply his own opinions about people not doing their jobs right - and probably should have been brought up on an assault charge.

I like him and his attitude is often refreshing. Additionally Top Gear is a MAJOR source of BBC funding, primarily because the presenters are popular worldwide. The license fee payer will be worse off without it.

Of course reports say he DID hit someone properly, so the BBC have no choice either way. Everyone loses except people so blinded by their dislike of one man that they're happy everyone suffers.

It's just a JOKE, like on top gear!

So, if I get this right, if Clarkson and the boys came down to your flat for a round of beatings (with Hammond and May looking on and laughing of course) you'd just bite a pillow? Nevermind that a majority of middle- and working-class license payers want him gone. Where's accountability in that?

Anyway, I thought this thread was for letting a bit of steam off, not trying to rile each other up. I'm terribly sorry that I've rustled your jimmies, and I'll refrain from making gently disparaging remarks about rich abusers, skinheads, and other wealth-generating luminaries in the future.

Top Gear anyway is another of those shows showing bourgeois old people with time and craplods of money enjoying life (driving, cooking, fishing, boating, traveling, talking shit, fucking, whatever) which kind of irks me.
The entertainment media like to show you nothing good, no room is available for younger adults, because they're poor and don't have a life anyway hahaha !

Have you ever watched it?

It's 3 men who make fools of themselves playing with cars and going on adventures once a year. If you want a serious car show with affordable cars being reviewed you're in the wrong place and nobody would watch it.

One of the places allegedly slighted was India. A minister complained about it. Pro-tip, Top Gear is hugely popular in India. People take isolated whining far too seriously.

I'll expect someone to take offence on my behalf next time a US presenter makes any
kind of British teeth joke, despite nobody here actually taking offense or caring.

He can't drive, and he's not that funny anyway. Chris Evans might work but their problem will be finding someone who can drive a car, and is happy to spend weeks on location being baked in an old Rover while mosquitoes feed on them as they hack through undergrowth with a machete. It's actually a difficult role to fill.

Wouldn't be sad to see Vickie Butler return.

Nah I'm not saying TG is a bad show (yes I've watched it several times, the UK one), I'm just tired of seeing gray hair on TV. Maybe it's different on UK TV, but in France aside from reality shows where young people ridicule themselves feverishly trying to earn a bit of something, it's mostly 50+, 60, 70 and even older people showing how well they did and how important they are to society in fucking every area.
And those people are the same I've been seeing since I was a kid, there's barely any generations renewal if you see what I mean.
TV in a big way reflects our society growing more and more unequal, and that it's not just by wealth but also clearly marked by age, which is very visible in our everyday lives.
Recently a famous French singer wrote a song on that exact topic, and believe me it created quite a stir, because it's become a huge problem here, and a shame.

Yes. (I've been asked this earlier, too, as if expecting that companies take a stand for their employees should not be done if you don't self-select for a high tolerance of abuse.) Not often enough. I'd still like to see more episodes. I think Clarkston has his fine points and usually fine moments - and I have some sympathy for the difficulty of doing the "curmudgeonly old coot" act well and not causing problems (I think Channel4's Time Team executed rude humor much better, though somewhat more understated there). The Argentine "controversy" was a disgrace and Top Gear was faultless in that. But this isn't about that. It's not time for a pity party yet.

I am sick of Clarkston for throwing fits in public because he's being rapped on the knuckles. I am sick of his co-hosts and the BBC for letting this go on for so long. I am sick of those of his supporters who have gone out of their way to issue threats and denigrate the character of producer Oisin Tymon. That's all really, but that's plenty enough. I really don't enjoy seeing yet another pillar of good British programming destroyed by thoughtlessness.

I realize I need to work on my Zen level some more - I have been trying to get better! - but I still find it strange to be accused of being outraged "on your behalf." I haven't anybody sheeple or anything for enjoying the show. This never was about the viewers, though viewers have certainly tried to make it a referendum on them, as it suited the moment.

Ironically when I first posted I was thinking of adding a coda which would have explained my feelings about the news cycle brain drain this drama has caused. Paraphrasing that:

"For all the hate that gets thrown at the SJW crowd, this is a reminder of how lopsided things still are. It is basically impossible to avoid finding agonizingly in-depth coverage of this nonsense in British journalism, and it's leaking through to other outlets worldwide. The SJW stuff is easy to avoid. No such luck with Top Gear fanaticism - in fact you might even fall over a tank on your way to Broadcasting House today."

At the same time, I spent part of my morning being amused by this:

Shitty "classic" gamepads. A friend had invested in a Retron 5 (a multi console with built in emulators, it's okay but it had some sound emulation issues). As a present, I got him a SNES pad for it, but unfortunately I didn't do my research very well, and I got one of these (in my defense, it was at a local store, but I shoulda done my research and guessed they'd be shit).

The D-Pad was an unmitigated disaster (unwanted diagonals constantly), and I embarrassed myself repeatedly when we played by dying to stuff that would never normally present an issue because the damn B button decided not to work 50% of the time.

Are there any brands of GOOD replacement controllers for the classic consoles that don't have garbage D-Pads and buttons?
