Repair kit for Sega New Astro City 400-5198-01 PSU's

Post by opt2not »

I'm looking for a repair kit for Sega New Astro City 400-5198-01 PSU's, caps and the 5v regulator (for -5v @ IC3).

andysarcade used to have this kit, but his site is down, and I haven't been able to find it elsewhere. I guess I could just take it apart and start looking at the cap labels, but I was hoping to just get a self-contained kit that has all the parts I need.

Anyone know a place (preferably in North America) that has these kits for sale?

Thanks. 8)

are you doing this for general maintenance, or are you having trouble with the cave boards? because this won't fix the cave board issue.

It's for Bubble Bobble, and my older PCB's that require -5v.

Currently my -5v rail is outputting pretty low voltage, and from what I've read, the regulator at IC3 is under powered and commonly fails.

Figured while I'm in there fixing the regulator, I'd do a refresh of the caps for general maintenance.

ok cool. i checked through my old posts, and it was the +5 rail i was having issues with. I wound up replacing my power supply with a new one from river service. only thing is it doesn't have a -5v rail, so that doesn't help you.

you should try emailing andy. i sent my old power supply to him to have him upgrade the parts like you're looking to do now. he replaced the voltage regulators and recapped it, but it didn't fix my problem. he is a good guy though, and very helpful. his site is down, but his contact form still works.

Thanks, I'll send Andy an email and see if he has his repair kit in stock. Cheers 8)
