Sony PVM 2730 QM - Horizontal Position - Help needed

Post by Rogue_element »

Hi everyone.

This is driving me nuts so I'm hoping someone can advise me. At the weekend I bought a PVM 2730QM to compliment my 2 x PVM 20L4s and 2 x 20M2Es.
After nearly breaking my spine trying to pick it up on my own and get it into my house, I was astounded by how much difference the extra 7 inches made over a 20" PVM in terms of immersion while playing a game but also how good the picture is in comparison to my smaller PVMs (equal in my opinion). My RGB modded N64 / SNES / PS1 PAL stuff looks absolutely superb through the
2730s SCART. So far so good. However, when i ran a 60hz / NTSC (USA) rom through the N64's everdrive the screen was pushed about 2 inches to the left - resulting in a black border on the right of the screen. This also happens for my SNES in 60hz mode. I thought this would be fixable with the horizontal position control on the monitor (that you obviously find in the service menu of the PVMS/BVMs) - only to find there is no option to adjust the picture of the 2730 without taking the back off the unit. After doing this and discovering the numerous pots inside I cannot find one that changes the horizontal position of the screen. Surely I am missing something here . Convergence and all the rest of the tweaks seem to be present and correct, but I cannot find one that changes the horizontal. Does anyone have a 2730 that has managed to change the horizontal screen position ? - alternatively if this is not possible can you advise which video converter I should use to do this (Extron etc) - I'm a bit of a noob with this kind of thing so advice is appreciated.

Thankyou - but I already have it. I cant find anywhere in it that shows me a horizontal pos pot. Admittedly I may have missed it as the manual is full of circuit board diagrams and the like - but I cant find anything .

I was messing with my PVM yesterday, a newer one that has a digital service menu, and there were two options that changed the horizontal position. They weren't labeled "H-Pos" or anything obvious. I think one of them was H-phase? I ended up leaving that one alone and using a the next option, which also moved the picture, the name escapes me now.

Sorted - was a pot on D board deep in the bowels of the monitor.
