i have two sega genesis model 1 power supplies (originals)
one of them reads 14.5v and the other one reads 15v.
are they supposed to be that high or has something gone bad in them?

Re: sega genesis model 1 power supplies
that would be W(atts) not V(olts).
Sega used a number of different PSU specs. The MD1 runs fine on both 9 and 10V PSUs with about 1.4 amps of power.

That is normal if you are measuring them with no load

thanks. Yeah i did measure them with no load. I had one that i got that was missing the tip so i decided to measure it to see if it was any good before i put a tip on.

Re: sega genesis model 1 power supplies
I just got another original Genesis power supply. It was causing wavy video interference through my picture. I switched consoles and still got the interference on a different console.
So i opened it up and noticed that the large capacitor inside was leaking.
i Replaced capacitor with identical new one (16v 3300uf) and now the interference is completely gone. I also cleaned the leakage off of the pcb.
I havent actually opened it up but this problem i had with the original supply makes me think that the cheap noname genesis power supply i bought recently that basically has the same interference lacks a big filtering capacitor.
hopefully this will help others who have the same problem.
