[RQ]Raiden III Red vs. Blue ship question
[RQ]Raiden III Red vs. Blue ship question
I've seen conflicting information on this -- do the red and blue ships in Raiden III move the same, or is it like the older games where the blue ship moves faster horizontally and the red ship moves faster vertically?

Couldn't you pop in two credits and play both ships at once to see this? This is how I usually compare ship speeds in shmups (fun fact: the ships in Ketsui do NOT move at the same speed in Lock shot, the Panzer is slightly faster). Move to the bottom corner of the screen, then move horizontally and if the ships are of different speeds it becomes obvious very quickly.

In Raiden 1 at least, when you put on 2 players the two ships actually move the same speeds
They're only different in 1 player games.

Oh? Really? Wow, that's unusual. I guess it makes controlling Doubleplays a bit easier, but it makes it harder to determine exactly how much faster one is over the other.

From the looks of it, Raiden III either has the same movement speeds between both ships, or it does the same thing and sets their speed the same when both are onscreen.

Re: [RQ]Raiden III Red vs. Blue ship question
Did a few tests on stage 1, and I suspect it works like it does in the older Raiden games; Blue moves faster horizontally unless it's 2P, in which case they move the same.
At the very least, I was able to hit 2.0 multiplier on all of the first three popcorn with the blue ship, which I've never done with the red one.
Also, the fact that the video for the western record for single-player has the player using the blue ship also hints at that being the case, at least to me.

Seems likely. I'll keep that in mind, I've been playing this a bit and quite enjoying it. Really have no idea where the hate comes from, maybe it's the lack of horizontal scrolling?

But people always complain about Raiden bullet wobble, so lack of horizontal scrolling seems like it'd do the opposite of create hate?trap15 wrote:Really have no idea where the hate comes from, maybe it's the lack of horizontal scrolling?
I suspect it was just people expecting something more "modern" -- the only concrete complaints I've seen are "ship speed too slow", "that stage 3 boss sniper", and "score system too simple".
