Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
Turns out that this game gets way more fun when I stop stubbornly trying to use weak ships.
3,943,660 - C.M - Stage 4 - Gain (C)
I intend to raise this shortly, but might as well create a starting point. Looking forward to continuing to work on this!

Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
Progress!

6,282,670 - C.M - Stage 5 - Gain (C)
Dropped medals at the start of stage 4(!) and Mad Ball Mk2 wasn't very good. 7 mil should be reachable if I can get all of the pieces to come together in one run.

4,534,760 - Some Mist - Stage 5 - Gain (B)

crapload of runs this weekend, and I think I actually scored a bit higher on the first day (4.7m) on s5 boss but I forgot to take a pic haha
hopefully I'll improve on this over the course of the next few months.

EDIT: New score is this:

(old score)
This is a game I put a few credits into every so often to see if something clicks for me and I somehow get the appeal. That something has clicked.

6,503,990 - Giest118 - 6 - Wild Snail (Iron Mackerel)

I do enjoy seeing some scores from new players. Keep it up! Once you're up to Black Heart, you can't turn back!

7,773,030 - C.M - Stage 5 - Gain (C)
Kept medals up until BH appeared. Died once to a sideways-aimed bullet by a BH drone, and once to BH's vulcan sweeping in the same direction two times in a row, neither of which I can remember seeing before.
Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
Nice one, at this rate you should be getting letter scores by the time you clear!
BH's escorts start firing aimed bullets if you take too long to kill them. You're more likely to see them during BH2 since BH2's escorts are more likely to survive long enough, but it can happen during BH1 as well.Keres wrote:Died once to a sideways-aimed bullet by a BH drone
I've seen this happen before when I die and spawn outside the spread pattern - sometimes the pattern just continues to sweep in the same direction several times in a row. Maybe it also happens if you somehow don't make it across the center of the screen with the first sweep, but I've never seen that myself.Keres wrote:BH's vulcan sweeping in the same direction two times in a row
Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
Yeah, the sweep direction is based on your current position, so if you don't make it all the way across, or respawn on the first side, he'll keep sweeping the same direction.

Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
Yeah it's based on your position in relation to the centre "strip" of the screen. If your hitbox doesn't make it across the middle, he'll continue sweeping in the same direction.

Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
I knew about the vulcan being based on what side of the screen you were on, but I guess I'd never actually had it work out that way in practice before. Makes sense, thanks guys!

8,313,380 - C.M - Stage 5 - Gain (C)
Finally made it past Black Heart and to the turret wall, but it was on a lower-scoring run. Letter scores are on the horizon.

Broke the 7 millions boundary.
Man, I sure do ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffFUCKING DIE A LOT in stage 5, which sets me up well for stage 6.

8,883,600 - C.M - Stage 6 - Gain (C)
Not quite the 9 million I was hoping for, but it still moves me up a spot on the rankings. The turret wall was so close to being dead, too.

Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
Code: Select all

Died between phases to Junkey Monkey. Good times.
Main change to my strategy was to up my autofire rate a bit right at the start. As a result everything died so fast that the game ended up easier. Until stage 6, anyway. But even then I seemed to do better at that stage than usual.

Twitch highlight
Hopefully, I'll be back here soon to post a letter.

Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
Nice one, it was only a matter of time before you beat my score, and I don't think it'll be too long before you're posting letter scores. I ought to go back and try to improve my score sometime, maybe learn Gain while I'm at it.

Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
Thanks! Respect for your Miyamoto, by the way; whenever I've messed around with him, he always seemed tricky to score with, since he's not really very good at the birds or either of the Mad Balls. I'll surely try to learn some other characters for fun once I feel like I've slowed down with Gain, though.Shepardus wrote:Nice one, it was only a matter of time before you beat my score, and I don't think it'll be too long before you're posting letter scores. Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
Mad Ball's actually one of the main reasons I want to learn Gain, Miyamoto's absolutely terrible at it (it's technically possible but I have yet to pull it off even with savestates). It's tough getting used to Gain's weird options or the weak options of any other ship though.
Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
I would actually say that it's pretty easy with Miyamoto.
Save some fragments after the birds, trigger homing at the end of the tank section, suicide at Mad Ball as soon as he scrolls downwards, use 1,5 bombs and pick off the inner turrets with your homing options.
I haven't practiced this (or anything with Miyamoto for that matter) and can pull it off consistently almost every time.
Start stage 3 with about 2,2 mil almost every time.

Figured out how to get more out of the birds, and endeavored to get more out of Mad Ball and Satanic Surfer. Good times.

I'm so salty about this, but whatever, I'll use that as fuel.

E,280,890 - chum - Stage 7 - Gain (C)
Stage 6 was the bane of my existence for so long. I gave up on this game for about a year, picked it back up, focused hard on learning survival routes through stage 6 and finally managed to reach this score. It took a longer than it should have. Stage 6 should not be underestimated with a high rank.

Re: Battle Garegga *newer*
thanks... but it is strange. i post in 4 separate threads, and get congratulated (twice) in the one with the least effort put into the score...
that is so alienating. every score here is better. although since i don't play garegga so much, it is pretty rough too...
i realize you two are being nice and i am not though lol
