Questions that do not deserve a thread
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Hello! My Sony PVM-14L5 is operating and in GREAT condition. It handles 240p/480i, AND it displays Smash Bros. in crisp 480p. My Wii is modded for homebrew, and runs Priiloader so I can boot the Homebrew Channel or run a VC game all just with my GC controller.
That said, VC games look really ugly in 480p, and so I usually switch the Wii to 480i through the System Menu, such that it displays in 240p with scanlines. But when I want to switch back and forth, I have to use a Wiimote/sensor bar to slog through the System Menu, which is really cumbersome.
Are there any settings in Priiloader/HBC - or any other Apps - that can switch the video output settings back and forth from 480i/480p without having to go to the System Menu/use a Wiimote? My setup is usually free of Wii remotes, and I was wanting to keep it that way.

FWIW, you can also control the Wii interface with a Classic Controller.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Can anyone recommend something that converts DVI and rca audio into HDMI? Preferably just passes the signal through without any sort of image processing.
Any help is appreciated!

They all leave the video untouched. Still unfortunately one of the more expensive adapter boxes out there. Haven't seen any for less than $45-50.Preferably just passes the signal through without any sort of image processing.
You're sure that you need analogue audio ? If SPDIF would do the trick, I would get this one:
I would personally get this one, since it's a solid HDCP stripper at the same time and you never know when you might need one.

http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=1 ... 1&format=2
For analogue audio you can really anything you can find on ebay or amazon.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Well I have a few hdcp strippers, so that's not a big selling point for me. Basically I'm wanting to run a taito type x into a framemeister through HDMI and upscale it that way instead of going VGA into a kenzei into the mini.
Any suggestions for that? And thanks for the help!

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
What resolution does the TTX output ? The Mini isn't this great at upscaling 480p or even higher resolutions, so I have a hard time seeing the point.
BUT to do what you want, you simply change the HDMI audio option in the Mini's menu to analogue. This way the Mini uses video from the HDMI1 port and audio from the analogue RCA inputs next to it. No need for any additional hardware.

Thanks fudoh, but what cables run out of that then? I'm just looking to get rca or a 3.5mm Jack out of it so I can feed it to my tv or reciever

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
It's a 5-pin connector that supports both L/R stereo to balanced XLR and to unbalanced RCA - depending on how the cables are connected.
Just get the connector, any gereric RCA stereo cable, the instructions from the Extron site and a sharp knife. No soldering required. These have screw connectors.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Hey, back again in need of your guys' help! My questions involve my Sony PVM-14L5, Super Smash Bros. Melee/Project M, and my recording setup.
Background
Recording setup before I got my PVM-14L5:
- Wii component cables connected to my XCAPTURE-1 (connected to Laptop via USB 3.0)
- 720x480i30 video signal passed through from XCAPTURE-1 to 27" Sony WEGA Trinitron's component jacks (to display the game)
- Lossless recording done through VirtualDub on my Laptop
- Deinterlace (Yadif + Frame Double Option), Resize (1080x720, Nearest Neighbor Algorithm), and Compress (Xvid Codec @ 720 Preset) the video in VirtualDub, so YouTube uploads it in 60fps.
After getting my PVM-14L5 a few weeks ago, I started playing Melee/Project M on the Wii in 480p with zero lag! The quality is incredible and the TV size is great for portable setups. Plus, I can now record in 480p, get better video quality, and skip the deinterlacing step in VirtualDub.
But for tournaments some of the players/spectators are requesting to use "bigger TVs" (the Sony Trinitron), since the place gets crowded with people watching. The PVM has passthrough capability through its video/audio outputs, meaning I could send the Wii's video/audio signals to the Sony Trinitron...right?
The only problem with this?...Non-HD Consumer Sony Trinitrons don't support 480p signals (which is why I bought my PVM in the first place)!
Questions
1. Is there a way to LAGLESSLY split/transcode the Wii's 480p signal so that it displays on both my PVM and a standard consumer CRT TV? Emphasis on "laglessly", since Smash Bros. games are very timing dependent.
2. When recording, which resolution SHOULD I record at: 720x480 (3:2 ratio), or 640x480 (4:3 ratio)?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Why don't you put a up large LCD for the spectators ?
For SD CRTs you can use a scan conversion (31 to 15khz). That's lagfree, but not exactly easy, since your source is a component signal and not a RGBHV one.
You should record in 720x480. That's the native resolution of the source. It uses non square pixels and is a proper 4:3 ratio (just like DVDs). If you want to upscale it before uploading it to YT, scale it to 960x720 and then pad it to 1280x720.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
not for the players, but for the spectators.
I mean, once you got a 480p setup (compared to a problematic 480i setup), both the player's side and the specators are easy to handle. Lagfree component to HDMI converters are extremely cheap and there are good 24" LCDs with zero additional lag (so just a few ms of response time). Good enough for the players. And for the spectators you can put up a large LCD - who cares if this one has a frame or two of lag ?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Smash Bros tournament players are among the most paranoid when it comes to input lag. They won't accept flatscreen tournament setups unless you've got ample evidence to justify them on the spot, and there will always be "those guys" who claim they can feel a 2ms difference. They're only just now being weaned off CRTs with the release of the new game, but Gamecube/Wii setups will still be commonplace for the old games.
Anyway, as mentioned already: use the PVM for the players and output to any old big LCD for the spectators.

Hello! First of all sorry for my English.
I just purchased 22" LaCie Blue IV CRT Monitor with VGA input to play classic games on it. Hooked up X360 by VGA and picture is Stunning! I never seen before Ikaruga and Radiant Silvegun in such a good quality.
Can you please give any suggestions how to hook up older RGB sources (like Saturn, PS1, etc)?

Hello. Due to a lack of funds I have had to be frugal when it comes to hardware. I just ordered Ketsui for the PS3 (I don't own a J-360) and need advice. As I've heard some negative reviews on the Dualshock 3's D-pad I was hoping somebody could give advice on buying a new controller.
I have little experience with fightsticks; I literally just today finished modifying a used MadCatz SE that I found very cheap with a LS-52 stick and Sanwa buttons but haven't really tested it out yet. If I like it I was thinking of buying (and modding) a "universal" stick like a Qanba Q1 or a Qanba Q4 so I can play on my PC as well. If I don't then I have a problem as I have no idea what gamepad is good for the PS3. Anybody have any opinions?
Thank you.

For old games I use a 15hz monitor (Sony PVM) so I can't help you there.

If your got the RGB scart cables for your older consoles, an used Micomsoft XRGB-2 or XRGB-3 would be ideal, check here for a world of options; http://retrogaming.hazard-city.de/Zero106 wrote:Hello! First of all sorry for my English.

Hi,
just a brief question:
If I use the Zoom function of my TV/xrgb to remove PAL boarders on 576i/p material, will I get a native, visible resolution of 480i/p or will this furhter decrease PQ?
Thanks!

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
At present, I have an S-Video restored SNES Mini. I pipe the SNES into a powered S-Video splitter, which then runs to my (bad) LCD monitor and to my S-Video capture device for recording/etc.
I'm in the market for picking up a PVM or a BVM monitor because I'm tired of playing stuff on an LCD monitor.
So that leads me to the following questions:
1) How can I connect S-Video to a BVM monitor? Do I need a special expansion for it? I know PVMs have S-Video ports.
2) Can I even get an RGB signal out of this setup?

I have ketsui for PS3, I don't know where you heard the dualshock had a subpar d pad as I find it more than adequate but if you're looking for an upgrade and don't want to splurge on a arcade stick then my advice is to get a usb sega Saturn pad. I remeber these went for a lot of money at one point but I think you can find them for around 20 or 30 now. Be aware there are fakes out there, sadly I don't remeber how to spot themMimeslayer wrote:Hello. Due to a lack of funds I have had to be frugal when it comes to hardware. Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Yes on a bvm you would need an sdi expansion board that supports s video, these pop up in ebay occasionally going for around $100 to $125 by my last count, no idea about the snes thoMishrak109 wrote:At present, I have an S-Video restored SNES Mini. Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Thought so. Thanks for the tip. That means I'll probably end up shooting for a PVM 20L5 unless I get an absolute steal on a BVM + SDI expansion. Seems a little funny to not be able to use the RGB on an RGB monitor but s-video should still look excellent so we'll see I guess.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
It's pretty strange indeed to mod a SNES mini and not go straight for RGB. Using a regular SNES console with RGB should give better results as long as you avoid the really bad revisions, even with a XRGB-mini instead of a PVM.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
On a CRT that would certainly be the case, but on digital display setups it seems that overscan introduces moire on certain patterns. It might not be that noticeable during usage though.12345 wrote:Hi,

There really isn't any 576p on 6th gen consoles though, unless you are talking about forcing it with Swiss on GC or such.

Part of it was already having all of the equipment in order to stream via s-video, which is a bit more affordable than a full RGB capture setup. It was easier to restore the mini and at the time I had no aspirations of picking up an RGB monitor. I am going to try and pick up a PVM 205L this weekend and eventually I'll see how my older snes looks on it.

Aren't there some pretty cheap line-doublers out there you can use to convert 240p RGB from a SNES to 480p VGA or something?Mishrak109 wrote:Part of it was already having all of the equipment in order to stream via s-video, which is a bit more affordable than a full RGB capture setup. Does the Micomsoft X-Capture 1 work with native Intel USB 3.0 chipsets?
