Tyrian (and, by extension, Tyrian 2000) is one of my favorite shmups of all time, and certainly my favorite PC shmup. Any idea when you plan on unleashing this on Steam? If this is anything like Tyrian I'll be all over this.

Steam release depends on Greenlight votes, so it could be a while... The game will most definitely be finished by then.

I got replays working for both modes. That's one of my favorite features to have in a shmup. Watching players beat my scores during the first couple weeks after Icarus-X's release is probably my fondest memory as a dev.

don't both of those patterns havea safespot at the top of the screen...?

When there are "obvious" safe spots at top of the screen (this is the case on many bosses) I just trigger a bunch of homing bullets to force you to move... It's not very elegant, but quite effective.Cagar wrote:don't both of those patterns havea safespot at the top of the screen...?

Soooo, I've been spending way too much time getting cross-platform compatible replays working and then realised it would be unmanagable in the long run due to the App Store approval process... Ah well 
I've been really happy with the campaign mode in my latest play tests. Obviously not for everyone, but the randomness of item generation and variety of possible builds keep things fresh even after 500+ hours playing it.
I feel the game is almost ready to launch. I will do a (hopefully) short beta test in the coming weeks: feel free to apply by sending an email to beta at thequadsphere.com with your forum name and the platform/device you wish to test on (Windows or iOS).

The game has finally been greenlit, the steam store page is live, the iOS version is waiting for review at Apple and release is planned for the 25th of June

Will this work with my Hori arcade stick? Because many of the shmups I've bought off Steam I've had to get refunded for since they don't work with it...

After reading the first post I decided to post to wish you well on development, then it turns out the game is out! Something about the "mixed shmup" experience appeals to me right now so I'm going to give it go. EDIT: I can't get the controls to work. I tried to map them to my stick but it seems to assign the analogue stick to something automatically and then the ship is ocntrolled by the mouse but constantly moves to the the top left of the screen. Weird!

Updated the Steam version with the following changes:
Added an option to fire the primary weapon manually (Please remap your controls before playing)
You can now navigate in most menus digitally (Keyboard or D-Pad)
Slowed down the scrolling and slightly dimmed the background on Chapter I
Chapter I Mini Boss is now easier
Chapter I Main Boss's spinning bullets no longer spin and do less damage
Enemy bullets no longer damage your ship if your shield is above 10% capacity (Campaign)
Removed the spinning enemy from Chapter I (Campaign and Arcade)
Adjusted difficulty on Chapter II Main Boss: regular bullets do more damage and homing bullets do less damage
Arcade Mode is now much easier in all difficulties
Please note: due to gameplay changes, older replays are now obsolete.
