PS360+ and Seimitsu LS-32, common ground?

Post by Slaz »

Hi there fellow Shmuppers. I've been a lurker here for quite some time now, even created an account a long time ago, but never bothered to post due to lack of time and an overflow of forums to check. I know that there's this thread for small questions that don't deserve a new thread, but I felt that it may be a bit awkward for a first-time poster to crash such a large thread so spontaneously.

Anyway, some years ago I started using my Xbox 360 for Shmups like Dodonpachi Saidaioujou and Mushihimesama Futari, and have always been using an arcade stick for controls. However, both of my arcade sticks have Sanwa JLF's at the moment, and I would like to try switching one of them to a Seimitsu LS-32 as most Shmuppers seem to like their shorter engage distance.

Now my question is, does it really matter for the PS360+ board if the Seimitsu stick is common ground (the LS-32-01) or not? As the store where I'd prefer to buy one only has the regular LS-32 in stock at the moment.

Both my sticks are modded 'Datel Arcade Pro' cases with PS360+ and all Sanwa parts.

My tip to you is to forget about that overrated LS-32 and get a better actuator and spring for your JLF.

Focus Attack:

http://www.focusattack.com/2lb-tension- ... sanwa-jlf/

Paradise Arcade:
http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/parad ... uator.html (I have one of the metal ones, the 0.5 not pictured)
http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/parad ... pring.html (my spring is a 2LB one)

This recommendation is coming from someone who has tested A LOT of different arcade joysticks for years and years. The LS-32 is shoddy. If you wanna try a Seimitsu, get an LS-56-01 with an octagonal restrictor.

You can trust emphatic :) The kowal actuator will get you a shorter throw and engage range and the spring will make those tap dodges more responsive. And you get to keep the smoothness of the JLF.

Oh, thanks for the advice! I'm still quite new to arcade controls (2 years or so) and the only joysticks I've got experience with are the bad Mayflash/Datel one and the stock JLF, which I have grown used to in both SSFIV and Cave shmups. I've always done tap dodges by moving my thumb towards the right side of the balltop and my forefinger on the left, while tensing my pinky down the shaft to increase tension.

Judging from FocusAttack's long description, that actuator seems to do what I want to achieve. And the 2LB tension speaks for itself. I'll add those 2 items to my shopping list! Still, I also want to try the LS-32 out of curiosity. It's not that expensive and I have 2 sticks to fiddle with in the first place. Plus I like to feel several different sticks since I'm visiting Tokyo later this year and like to train for some okay highscores.

Not really related to the thread, but my last serious highscore attempt was on Saidaioujou Novice. Done using a JLF and OBSC-30 buttons:

Now training for SDOJ Arcade Shot Style and can get to stage 4 with all my lives at best. Also training 1ccing Mushihimesama Futari's Maniac mode (arcade 1.5 ver).

Oh nice! I might submit highscores for several modes in the SDOJ thread when I believe they're good enough, it might take a while though.
