OK, I've been watching some Darkest Dungeon videos and will admit that I'm getting pretty excited about it. I know it is out RIGHT NOW, but am busy with a couple other games, and of course BloodBorne is out at the end of next month. Maybe I can carve out some space for it?

if you liked demon/darks souls & smt (nocture, dds), it's worth it. there were some issues with the rng after initial release and it was quickly patched.
still needs some work though.

There's so much out right now or coming out in the near future I will probably wait for the full release (only to find out that the changes are miniscule.)

I can't help but wonder if the new Godzilla game is any good. I'm guessing it's probably bad. I thought it might be pretty decent being developed by Namco and all.

Bloodborne has guns! Nice!

Danganronpa Another Episode (Vita)
Rodea the Sky Soldier (3DS / Wii U / Wii)

Announced yesterday (and Disgaea 5, but I don't care about that)

I forgot Yumi's Odd Odyssey in my Vita list. I'm guessing it's not getting a physical release outside of Japan, so that's something I'm getting as an import this year.

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines (Vita) is coming March 3rd, 20$ digtal only. Wasn't really interested until I saw some gameplay footage.

Not a game, but I definitely want to pick up one or two of the Mortal Kombat fightpads. They look pretty solid to me.

IGN came through in a pinch:
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/02/19/ ... 886-review

I had my doubts, but I didn't imagine it would rate THIS badly. Quite interesting that IGN went out on a limb this time - polish seems to be enough to get a game to a solid 8 usually, or so it seemed.

Onto the game itself: I know casul gamers are supposed to be dumb, but this is really something. I don't think anybody, anywhere enjoys the "stay calm and walk slowly while listening to ramblings" game convention. It's like the Obligatory Sewer Level, except worse - it's theoretically possible to do a good sewer level, but I don't see how this could work well.

Also, this:
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/02/03/ ... ondemned-3
Not sure I really care to have more set in the same universe, or with the same gameplay, but there are a few good ideas in there (as I'm nearing the final confrontation of the franchise so far).

The Order always looked really bad to me. All of the gameplay footage made it seem like the most uninspired cover-based TPS in existence since it doesn't try to do anything new or unique. Maybe it would have worked if it was fresh off the Gears of War 1 hype, but I think everybody got sick of that type of game several years ago. The short campaign, total lack of replay value, QTEs out the ass, and unskippable cutscenes are just more nails in the coffin.

In other news, the guys who were developing the new Phantom Dust were taken off the project and had to close down as a result. Not a good sign. I think the game could still be good as long as Futatsugi is directing, or at least overseeing and approving of all the work that's being done on it. If he's not heavily involved, though, I might as well stop caring. (And there's no way it's coming out in 2015 lol)

I held off on Dark Souls II, having anticipated the PS4 release. Now I'm just looking forward to that & to a lesser extent, Bloodborne. Hope the PS3 version's problems are fixed. I was pretty irked upon reading the reviews because it makes twice in a row that From released a Souls game that didn't quite work right out of the box. I don't have decent net access at home & there's no way for me to get it, so it's important that I don't have to update. Demon's Souls was super polished right out of the box.

I don't remember Dark Souls II having any major problems out of the box? They patched a ton of stuff and adjusted the balance based on player feedback, but it was pretty much fine when it came out. The first game definitely had problems, though. God knows how they managed to release it with a totally broken targeting system (for starters).

I remember reading about it having bad input lag & terrible balance, plus the disappointing graphical downgrade from preview vids. My biggest two problems with the original Dark Souls were crashing frame rate issues & that exploit where you could kill these forest NPC's over & over for mega souls. I really felt the balance problems already with that one. Demon's Souls was such a perfect & streamlined experience that it really put me off.

That isn't to say I didn't love the game, I did. I remember having hella fun in that Hell-ish area underground with all the giant demons in lava. Intimidating as f*** :)

Just to be on the safe side though I've skipped out on II until now. I want the best initial impression.

Completely forgot about that one. Based on the trailer and screenshots it seems to be more Neverhood than Skullmonkeys, although personally I would prefer it to be a mix of both.

both are definitely great and have their own merits, and I agree... a point + click platformer claymation game in the style of both games would be amazing.

it's definitely going to be more neverhood than anything else - which is fine by me since The Neverhood was one of my favorite games growing up (along with skullmonkeys too).

this was their latest work-in-progress vid if you haven't seen it yet :)

It's bad, and the PS3 version has an unbearably choppy framerate (no word on PS4 yet). It was actually developed by Natsume Atari, a noob studio with no relation to those two other companies. Stick to Godzilla Generations: Maximum Impact or Compile's Famicom Godzilla if you're in the mood for a game with the license.

Thanks for the heads up. I probably would have fallen for it. I didn't even think there were any good Godzilla games. Will have to check those out.

Amikrog looks really great. I actually used to have a copy of Skullmonkeys before. Have no idea why I sold it.

The PS2-era Godzilla 3D fighting games developed by Pipeworks (starting with Destroy All Monsters Melee on GC) were fairly popular in their day, but they prioritize their wacky fanservice and large rosters over compelling game mechanics or faithfulness to the films.

Yeah, I used to have melee on GC. I remember not caring much for it. Pretty sure I sold it.

Surprised your anticipation for DS2 (inferior to the two previous souls games) is more than Bloodborne. Still, I might repurchase the game for next gen as well, if only to see the game run the way it was probably intended (or at least as close to as possible.) There's an article that breaks down the ps4 version of DS2, and they come to the conclusion that the game appears to have been developed for next gen hardware to begin with. With the arrival of Bloodborne and some of my frustration with DS2, I will undoubtedly wait a bit...maybe even for the price to drop. Can't say I'm super excited about them upping the enemy count, which was already way too high in a lot of places.

I just looked it up and didn't realize that the price jumped up so high... but you can still find copies for around $50 if you ever wanted to get it back :P

the graphics are just being slightly polished up and running at 60fps also the dark areas will be way darker than they were. it's not going to look like the demo video.

PS4 port of Final Fantasy X & X-2 finally has confirmed what I hoped for: cross-save. You might say "of course a port will include a feature of the original", but we're talking about Square Enix.

Also has an option for original sountrack and not the terribly remixed one for X.

Vita version of La-Mulana tomorrow. Apparently they done some gameplay tweaks to make it more accessible (I can hear the whining already, but they're hardly turning it into The Order 1886). Can't wait, hoping for it to be a PS+ title as it seems likely.

La-Mulana Vita port is nice. It's not Plus, sadly.

1:1 graphics looks even sharper than I thought they would and controlsh feel more responsive than the PC and Wii versions (probably not more responsive than the Wii version on a CRT though).

While 1:1 looks amazing, I wish there would be a fullscreen option, yes I know scaling 480p to 540p wouldn't look ideal, but the option would still be nice. Especially on Vita TV where you're sitting far away from the image and it looks blurred already anyway.

480p to 540p to 720p to 1080p. That would've been a nice scaling process :P
