---

We have received special orders from the colonel for Loop 7:

No-miss the first 3 stages of at least one of your rolls this week to receive a 5 point bonus.

---

Important, please read!

Please use this format for your submissions and edit all of them into a single post for the current week. Also please calculate your own final score including your weekly bonuses when you are finished playing everything.

Name - Game and Version - Ship (if applicable) - Stage - Score
(TLB Clear)
(Weekly Challenge Clear)

Final Result: ___ Points

New rules in effect as of Loop 7:

The 2 point bonus for 5 submissions is being scrapped as of Loop 7. In it's place we will have weekly special orders from the colonel. If you complete the orders that are issued you will be given 5 bonus points for that week. These orders will change with each Loop. You can only get the special bonus one time per week. The orders will be listed in the opening post, and in the results post for the previous week.

From Loop 7 on Boss Rush modes and games such as Ketsui Death Label can no longer count as submissions towards Death Roulette.

The submission format has changed slightly, so please have a look at the new format. Also please calculate your final score for the week including any bonuses you have achieved and add it to your submission post when you are finished with your games for the week. It's a really big help to me when calculating results.

---

Awesome job as usual this week guys. I tried really hard to take you down this week Lilium, but that 50 was just untouchable. Major respect.

As you can see there are a few changes for week 7. If you guys have any suggestions for changes to how DR works feel free to post them. Ideas for weekly challenges are welcome too. I was considering letting the winner of each week decide on the next weeks challenge.

Roll 'em!

Code: Select all

Heavy Viper - V-V (MD)- ST.1 - 93820

Heavy Viper - Gradius V (PS2) - TYPE 1 - ST.1-4 - 600k-something?

Heavy Viper - Sylphia (PCE) - ST.8 (ALL CLEAR!! +5) - 17963250
WEEKLY CHALLENGE CLEAR!! +5

Heavy Viper - Seirei Senshi Spriggan (PCE) - ST.7 - 1471430

Heavy Viper - Solid State Survivor (WINDOWS) - TYPE-A - ST.1 - 592448

FINAL RESULT: 31,000,000
Two of my favourites and three I've never heard of - another interesting mix!

FAITO FAITO FAITO

RESULTS EDIT: Not happy about V-V, really disappointed with that result. Gradius V is about on par with my average - haven't really sat down and picked it apart. Spriggan and Sylphia were cool to play - I guess I just have a knack for PCE shmups! Solid State Survivor was interesting, too - nice music, steady take on DDP basic gameplay, and named after one of my favourite albums!

Fun round, at least. This is actually quite a cool way to find out about new STGs!

Gonna try this out for the first time. Keep in-mind I suck at shmups and my first weekly roll is not gonna help.

1. Sturmwind- only person who put this in my top 25
Royalfan84-Sturmwind (dc)-stage 3 Gegenschlag-909,720

Was going strong until stage boss 2 mass confusion cost me. Beautiful space shooter.

2. Gradius III- oh god here we go

Royalfan84-Gradius III (Arcade) ps2-type A-stage 2-45160

Sand lion close-quarters hell...gotta lucky with an extend towards the end of the stage...followed by bubblehell. Gameover.

3. Einhander- another hori...I like this one though (doesn't mean I'm any good at it.

Royalfan84-Einhander(ps)-Endymon FRS mk. II- stage 3 mid-boss- 1,091,860

Jumping spider robot ended me. Of course.
4. Gradius II- oh yes another gradius...just what I need

Royalfan84-Gradius II (virtual console)-type 3-1-?

I have gotten to stage 3 before but I couldn't make it happen this time...that Phoenix boss is a dirty bird.

5. Ikaruga- never made it past stage 2 on normal or harder on one credit.

Royalfan84-Ikaruga (360)-stage 2- 738,720

Nothing but up from here fellas.

Here's the games I have ahead of me this week:

Darius
Dragon spirit
Galaga
Robotron 2084
Dokingan

Code: Select all

LordHypnos - Darius (World) - 1 - ?
Lord Hypnos - Dragon Spirit (new ver) - 2 - 23,470
Lord Hypnos - Galaga (namco) - 2 - 7990
Lord Hypnos - Robotron 2084 (Solid Blue Label) - 2 - 19,000ish
Lord Hypnos - Dokingan (1.01) - 3 - 11,669,579

1+2+2+2+3=10 (no bonus)
Darius - Man, if I hadn't run into the wall right as the boss battle was about to start, I might have made it to stage 2 :x Sweet music, though.

Dragon Spirit - this one has some potential, but getting used to the air / ground weapon distinction would be tough, as would learning what each of the powerups do, so I can avoid the double head ones

Galaga - god damn, I thought I could at least count on galaga to give me more than 2 points. Thing is, I got hit once in the first wave, then had a ship abducted, then accidentally shot the ship down instead of its captor. Then I got hit by a ship that went around me after I dodged it in the second wave. I'm really too tired to be shmupping right now. As for the version, I'm playing it in MAME4ALL Dreamcast, and the only version info its giving me is "namco" as opposed to "midway" (or whoever published it in North America), basically jp version. IDK if its A or B or whatever.

Robotron - Goddamn, only made it to the second wave, and not even one extend >_< Not my week

Dokingan - Well, this game is stupid easy, but I haven't memorized anything at all, so I'm not really surprised that I didn't NM the first 3 stages, but I did even worse than I was expecting, considering it has autobombs and pretty regularly gives you new bombs (no idea what they come from)

After my lack of playing last time I entered, gonna make a legit effort to get to everything this week, I'll just edit my list as scores come in:

Einhander
Titan Warriors - 14000- S1
Star Soldier (NES) - 23700 - S1
R-Type III
G-Stream G2020 -

I would assume for G-Stream that I can just play Deltazeal on 360?

Round 7

Decided to plug the 360 for having a few more options :) Got Deathsmiles (finally at least a chance to score something better than a 3). Probably will crash and burn
R=Player&Game&Ship&Stage&Score R=Stompp&Deathsmiles&Rosa&4&15848758 R=Stompp&Night Raid&-&-&- R=Stompp&Strikers 1999&X-36&1-3&194300 R=Stompp&Espgaluda&Ageha&4&8543320 R=Stompp&Dodonpachi Daioujou&type-a/shot&2&?

So um, don't play DOJ right after playing Espa. Head gets messed up  Anyways, I swapped Arrow Flash for Espa since it didn't want to work on my PC :( and Night Raid fell out because I don't have time to rotate the monitor atm. Again a modest score

For loop 8, we have...

Cho Ren Sha 68k
Sturmwind (Arcade Mode)
donpachi
Twin Hawk MD
Vulgus

Should be decent. I can at least count on Sturmwind for a few points b/c how easy it is, though it's been ages since I've played, maybe some memo death will surprise me.

Code: Select all

LordHypnos - Twin Hawk (MD, NTSC-J) - 1 - 55460 (?)
LordHypnos - Sturmwind Arcade Mode - ALL (6) - 2,014,801
LordHypnos - Cho Ren Sha 68k (PC, latest version) - 2 - 586,686
LordHypnos - Vulgus (set 2) - 1 - 16,550
LordHypnos - Don Pachi (US version) - 2 - 798,980 (?)
1+6+2+1+2=12 (before bonuses)
THMD- Where the hell does area 1 end? Pretty sure I already fought like 2 bosses! Only thing I really dislike about this game is the snipers that appear at the back of the screen and fire at you... Was playing auto on and in Kega Fusion.
Sturmwind - Surprisingly still quite fun! The telegraphing helped me remember a lot of the memo obstacles, but I still didn't do that great. Didn't quite even place on my local leaderboard, but luckily there is a huge margin for failure here, so I still snagged the ALL. Also definitely got an extend or two, but they aren't point based in Sturmwind (but rather items), so IDK if it counts.
CRS - This actually started really good, but then I had a bunch of chain deaths on the stage 2 boss. That's a lot worse than I was expecting
Vulgus - Also legitimately surprised how poorly I did. Thought for sure I'd be getting to the first extend :?
Don Pachi - Wow, that was bad. nothing else to say, really :(

Wow, actually feel kind of shitty after that :(

My rolls for the week:

Code: Select all

Heavy Viper - Whip Rush (MD) - St. 2 - roughly 60k
WEEKLY CHALLENGE CLEAR!! +5

Heavy Viper - Super Fantasy Zone (MD) - St. 9 - 673,600

Heavy Viper - Sexy Parodius (SAT) - VIC VIPER - St. 4 - 251,600

Heavy Viper - HellSinker (PC) - St. 1 - basically nothing

Heavy Viper - Wyvern Wings (MAME) - St. 2 - THUNDERFOX XYF-01B - 135, 900
TOTAL = 23,000,000

Two I know, and three I don't. This could be trouble. Hopefully it doesn't become a theme!

POST-MORTEM:

- Super Fantasy Zone is so good. :3
- Sexy Parodius is about average for me. I've played it a lot, but I've never really sat down with it long enough to get a decent performance out. All that innuendo, though...
- Whip Rush and Wyvern Wings seem all right, but damn they're brutal! You really have to be on the ball from the start with both, although in Whip Rush learning how to use the Speed setting properly seems to be key.
- HellSinker: JESUS CHRIST, I'M OLD. WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING. I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

Round 8

system11 - Cybattler - Stage 1 - 66100 (knew that would happen, I've never beaten stage 1 of this game)
system11 - Musha Aleste - Stage 6 - 14715830 (hit first extend)
system11 - Batsugun - Stage 4 - 728210
system11 - Twinbee - Stage 3 - 109100 (first EVER credit of Twinbee original - and now I want the PCB)
system11 - Battle Garegga - Stage 4 - 13xxxxx

Got the PCBs of two of those but I think I'll emulate even though the score will be worse. Lots of effort swapping boards.

1+(6+5)+4+3+4 = 23
