Edge - 1'565'200 - Lvl.6 (US Version)

Image

I just played the US version, don't know if there is any difference(?)

This game seems pretty easy, as long as you are fully powered up. So I guess a 1CC won't be that hard and I doubt there is a 2nd loop, maybe there is... Let's see how to handle this game for highscores.

You sure, you won't try to play via emulator, Ramus? :(

Best I'll repeat the offer here, if anyone is looking for Magic Engine send me or Seven Force a pm. :)

NTSC-J - 1,870,000 - 7 (US Version)

Bleh I gave it a try and I don't think I want to play it again. I love the style but booooooooooring especially for scoring purposes.

I have just played a round and found something ugly...

It seems that some bosses can be milked a lot for better scores. but when I reached the 3rd boss I could simply stay at the same position and just hold the fire button to increase my score. :(

Image Image

When I stay there I won't hit the boss, nor will he hit me. But my lasers will destroy his homing missile each giving 100 points. I just laid my joypad carefully on a book (upside down), so that the fire button will be pressed the whole time. Then I ate something watched a bit TV, about 30 minutes later I returned to my PC and was still increasing my score.

That's why I'd like to vote for another game, this week.

So how about: R-Type 3 (SNES) or Gun-Nac (NES)? Those two got the second most votes. From these two, my voice would be for R-Type 3.

Is it possible we only stick to games emulated in MAME? Arcade games seem to be the least likely candidates for infinite milking since their purpose is quarter sucking.

Seconded. :)
Also the difficulty from arcade games is always challenging. Plus emulation is pretty easy and common.

Edit:
So do we want to start the Raizing week, right ahead?

I vote that we close this smeet because of the scoring tricks (R-Type 3 can be exploited via suicides, and I think Gun-Nac has some kind of similar scoring tricks as well), and let everyone take a break until next Monday, when we will have a more accurate idea of which Raizing game will be selected ^_-

EDIT: I had a feeling that the bosses could be milked as they don't appear to timeout - I sat for ten minutes geting up to 200k off the first boss' blue orbs, but that stage3 missile trick is pretty funny ^_^ I wonder how high the score counter would go if you left it on all night...

It's not your fault, Shatterhand. ^_^
Most older console games tend to have all sorts of scoring exploits, whether it be suicide exploits, extended milking, no boss timeouts, or little bugs. It would be difficult to find a list of old games that have these exploits, as there are probably tons of them out there. It is unavoidable. ^_-

I had fun playing the game again though, I remembered why I really liked it all those years ago ^_^

Why don't we just play the 5-minute Caravan mode instead?

It's perfect for a scoring competition!

Now there's an idea ^_-

Caravan Mode is only on the US version, right?

Uhm, to be honest, I don't like those Caravan modes that much. Though it is really a good idea. Still I wouldn't mind a short break... meanwhile I could play some good old PCE games. (god bless Magic Engine. ^^)

What do the other users think?

PS: If we play on Caravan, are we reseting the remaining time for this week? Or will it still end at the 16th?

Nope, it's included in all versions of Soldier Blade (JPN, US and the Soldier Blade Special Version). It was just renamed "Challange" in the US version.

Anyway, I think Caravan mode should be fun. Lots of action, no milking or trickery, and ideal for that short little shmupping break inbetween. :)

Another vote for Caravan Mode here.

It proved to be quite the competitive little game in the past.

Uhm, so what now?
No one posted a score or anything at all?!?

Are we waiting for the next week to start?
Which would make the the Raizing week to Week #6. Because this week wouldn't count then.

I've enjoyed the week off, actually. Spent it clearing Advance Wars DS' main Campaign mode (to unlock the Hard Campaign), and getting on with university coursework. ^_^

I still vote to scratch this week off the list, and call Raizing week #6. Looking forward to some Batrider Advanced Course starting Monday. Been warming up with a bit of Garegga and Ibara ^_-

Same here.

I also found this break was quite relaxing and I could play some other games instead. :)

i came across this by accident (the search engine suxx) - someone pls lock this afterwards -

in the 2nd last stage the boss can suck you in, if you go there, you get some special weapons - grab the blue laser and unleash it one the brown enemies. this will give lots of points. get out, and let the boss suck you in again, repeat ad infinitum. you can break 3m very quickly like that, gets boring of course. oh i only played this on 'hard' the suicide bullets make it a little more interesting, still cake tho of course. the unleash blue on row of brown enemies tactic works during some regular stagetrips as well (st1-halfway thru - cant recall the others (been long time)) . if you stretch your imagination, its reminiscent of doj's hypersystem (you even get a 20 sec bar in the topleft corner). also, in that 2nd last stage one of the bosses forms looks like ddp's stinger...

man, this was long. and boring. and messy. im such a loser...
