@ProjectAKo, amazing and congrats! Looking forward to that video.

Battle Bakraid Normal 1CC. Right after that was obtained, I fired up Advanced and made it all the way through cloud and to the boss of the stage after that before dying. So to refresh my memory I credit fed my way to the end of Advanced and I'm not too far off from an Advanced clear. I'm actually getting pretty darn excited to get my second 1CC.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
Managed to break 3,000,000 experience in Mars Matrix (this was actually last night).
I think a lot of it came from improving my stage 1. In this round of obsessive Mars Matrix playing I started milking the stage 1 boss for experience (essentially got an extra +250 chain), also I better figured out how to aim bullets at the beginning of the stage to get a higher chain. Still not good at aiming bullets at the end of the stage before the boss. I have a like +50 or so variance there. Usually been getting between +700 and +750
Had a couple of runs early on with nearly 600k experience in stages 1 and 2, but I kept on having the most garbage 3rd stages. A few of them I played out, but I restarted most of them (first three stages are like 5 minutes all together, so it's not too big a deal to restart). Finally though, I had a good stage 3 after a 1+2 with only about 500k, but made it up to 1.8 mil by the end of the 3rd stage (which is pretty insane, actually. I almost never get 1.3 mil in practice mode in stage 3). At the end of stage 4 I had still no miss and over 2 mil experience.
Stage 5 went really well with a full chain leaving me at 2.8 or 2.9 mil, IIRC. Then I finally died on both the 3rd and final car of the train fight (very frustrating considering my third car has been really good recently in practice mode). The boss pushed me up to nearly 3 mil. Probably like 2.98 or something.
Stage 6 got real frikken intense because I died twice really early on (which is generally easier to live through than the later part of the stage and the final boss), leaving me with no choice but utter perfection (zero lives). Of course, utter perfection didn't happen b/c I hadn't practiced stage 6 for a while, but I did a few loop-de-loops around the screen dodging bullet spam and somehow managed to survive. Then I perfected the boss, and that last little bit of experience from the rose form pushed me just over 3 mil
I think this route is pretty much bled dry now, as I really got way more experience than I generally get in stage 3, so even if I patched up the errors, it might be balanced by only getting the usual 1 - 1.1 mil instead of 1.3. To improve I'm going to have to learn some new routes probably, and definitely learn to patch my chain through the midboss in stage 4. But now I'm gonna focus on other stuff for a while... probably. I don't know what, yet. Still want to keep in practice, though.
No video, unfortunately.

I just got the 1cc on Steel Empire on my first try.
So epic I know.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...

Fired up a random credit and was able to beat the first loop in Kingdom Grandprix, I wasn't expecting that, and eventually made it to 2-3. Might have to go for the 2-ALL now...

Finally ticked espgaluda ALL off the list.
It's a tough one to stick with due to the following..
die in a shmup = "ah that's okay. it's a challenging genre. I'll just try again. "
die in galuda = " FFFFFUUUU WOW I'M THE WORST PLAYER TO HAVE EVER LIVED. I SHOULD SMASH MY STICK AND GIVE UP FOREVER"

Batsugun Normal 1CC with Olisis! I like his spreadshot, and I wanted to clear it with someone who doesn't get a huge benefit from autofire (his wide shots are okay, but they're only occasionally useful for popcorn, I was using the wave cannon most of the time).
Jupiter is a complete asshole, by the way. This was the first time I got by with only one death against him. I made it to the end of stage 5 and died to a popcorn shot with bombs stocked before the final boss (Ffffffffff-) but I knew that I could very likely take the final boss with just one extra extend stocked because he doesn't last nearly as long as Jupiter.

Nice! I've been putting some work into Batsugun recently as well, though mostly the special version. I'm not sure I'm brave enough for Original Jupiter stuff. Do you plan on doing anything else with Batsugun, or moving on to something else?
And grats to Blinge on the Galuda clear! I really love the final battle, such intense music, lots of bullets, but still very doable with little practice. Its fun to load up and run through the game just for that fight.

The music really sets the tone of that last fight. Galuda's actually pretty reasonable to clear thanks to all the resources, but if you're scoring it can be quite tough because you need to save your Kakusei and your meter for key sections. Dying right before the super important Alice segment is absolutely heartbreaking. Definitely a satisfying clear!dunpeal2064 wrote:And grats to Blinge on the Galuda clear! I'll probably try and improve my crap score using Type B. The Jupiter scoring trick is probably a bit out of my skill range for now, but I'd love to get a clear of Batsugun Special with all of its loops. The hitbox in the Normal version feels just a touch too large for some of the last second dodges at times (the enemies can fire at you from the bottom of the screen which can be quite hair raising).

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
Yeah, the bigger hitbox in Original can be nasty.
Jupiter milking in Original is probably brutal, since you also have the weird bomb, on top of the larger hitbox. In Special, I think its pretty doable. The biggest help for me was to identify markers on the boss, so that I can just line up with those and know I am safe. There are only really 4 markers you have to get down, and then the fight is really consistent.
I'm actually having more trouble after Jupiter than on him, since most of the resources are gone after that fight. Not killing the walker on the elevator in Stage 5 leads to some silly deaths, which screws with bombing the tanks a bit later on.
And yeah, Type B helps quite a lot, especially for Jupiter.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
I tried messing around with Type A a few times and I'm convinced it's an utterly garbage shot type by comparison. It's actually pretty decent for stages and bosses, but as soon as you reach Jupiter's first phase your shots are too wide and spread out to rapidly deal with those tiny turrets. The small bomb centered on your ship (that does negligible damage if the balls don't touch the enemy) doesn't help either - you have to commit to bombspamming by getting up close and hitting bosses with them.
I wonder how difficult Galuda would be perceived if people realized that in the first game, Tateha's normal mode laser is actually stronger than Ageha's (the double pierce shots are what helps her)? Her Kakusei powered shot is a bit trickier to use, but it's still quite powerful against bosses.

Oh really? Damn, most of my galuda play over the past 2 years was Tateha, with my dualshock 2 controller. Once I came back to it playing stick I switched to Ageha because it seemed easier with his movement speed. Feels like i've cheated on tatehaBareKnuckleRoo wrote: I wonder how difficult Galuda would be perceived if people realized that in the first game, Tateha's normal mode laser is actually stronger than Ageha's (the double pierce shots are what helps her)? haha. ahh shit.. just realised i didn't make an input of my clear. It was nothing special, but still.

Ageha's movement speed and his easier to use Kakusei laser are definite advantages during certain patterns where you need to make some sudden wide movements. Tateha's low speed means she needs to use her rapid shot speed to get out of the way occasionally. He's also better for precision scoring as it's easier to control exactly what you hit (and don't) during Kakusei.Blinge wrote:Once I came back to hit playing stick I switched to Ageha because it seemed easier with his movement speed.

I used Mao/F-15 as shown in my vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RF_vWJHy5E . She's good at getting a consistent score, being able to freeze time and collect all 80k of medals in 1-8/2-8. Absolutely garbage for consistent survival. You want to speedkill certain bosses in the second loop, and she does the opposite of speedkilling.Skykid wrote:Which character did you use out of interest?ProjectAKo wrote:Welp after 5 months of routing and muscle memory building I finally 2-ALLed sonic wings 2, score 2.445 million and as far as I know the only english speaker to do so so far. Angela/RAFALE ship is probably the best, since the best way to get a huge score is to survive consistently so you can grind out runs until mambo appears. Angela has insane damage with autofire and 2nd tier speed, behind Mao and tied with others.
Bobby has the same type of autofire missile trick, but he's insanely slow, and his main shot really sucks sometimes.
Silver/A-10 can speedkill a lot of stuff as well, but too slow to move around the screen and position sometimes. Super overpowered main shot.
Keaton seems to be unbelieveably awful... Like his damage is bad, sub weapon is crap, speed is average, bomb sucks... For either survival or scoring he seems ill suited for everything. Keaton was terrible in the original sonic wings as well. At least in sw3 his bomb is like 10 seconds of invincibility.

That's pretty great.
I didn't realize some routes had fewer captains. I assume that's mostly because the one zone throws four of them at you for some reason?

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
Yeah that's correct, and some stages doesn't have any at all, one of the stages should have one but it just drops an enemy instead.

Strike Gunner STG video
I cleared Strike Gunner STG (SNES) on the hardest difficulty, called "Otaku" in the Japanese version. Took a lot of time to figure out the best weapon set for each stage. In some ways one of the hardest games I've ever played, since certain weapon sets on some levels basically result in a dead-end hopeless run.

Glad I stumbled upon this game on accident, very fun unless you dont qualify for the second loop because of your point standing

Edit: Apparently the JP version is much harder, I gave it one run through and made it to 2-3 but its quite intense! I will try to 2-ALL this version but the second loop is a pain in the ass

Super helpful - I'd elect some of this info is moved to the Sonic Wings 2 strategy thread, which is kind of bare bones (in fact I'll do that now.)ProjectAKo wrote:I used Mao/F-15 as shown in my vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RF_vWJHy5E . I'm encouraged to go down to the arcade and give it another crack. Best I've done is the last stage nine one ocassion with Mao, but as you said, not the best for survival.
Congrats on your victory, great video and some interesting tips.
EDIT: Hold on... Angela is a secret character? I've only ever seen six on the selection screen in the arcade, where do you get the others?

Skykid, you're looking for steve, as he is called in the english version. But he really needs turbo to be amazing. Silver is strong for an easy 1cc even without turbo.

After months of owning this game but never really sitting down and finishing off the 1cc for Beginner mode I finally managed to get it down! Not the most impressive 1cc by any means but for me I'm considering this my first one (I beat Mushihesama Original Novice first try which to me didn't seem like it should count haha)

Thanks! I will probably jump back to my Ketsui and Mushihimesama Original practice. Can consistently get to stage 4 in both games so in either one I'm getting closer to the 1-All. I just need to get back in the habit of getting good practice every few days. Sometimes you fall out of a habit, whether its practice at the gym or in a videogame, and you have to get your mind pointed back in the right direction

1-ALL BABY - 7th from the top.
It went down exactly like I thought it would.
I died twice on stage 4 (field of death and the boss), no missed stage 5 in its entirety, lost a ship on 6, but I didn't lose my shit).
No missed the boss till the 3rd form. I got passed its 1st attack, died on the 2nd (as expected), and got through the 3rd.
Once the 3rd phase was finished I knew I'd get the clear.
After all that I made it to the last boss in Fast Striker, wound up with a 2-CC.
