Raiden 1 pcb, graphical glitches on startup.

Post by Jeneki »

Is graphical corruption during the first 30 seconds or so on a Raiden 1 pcb normal?

Upon initial startup, I'm seeing graphical glitches, such as tanks and bullets not displaying correctly and flashing sprites on background layers (for example, in the initial demo loop the first boss coming out of the hanger, which flashes white). After the first demo loop, around 30 seconds worth, all of the graphical corruptions go away and the game plays normally as long as I have it powered on. Thus, this isn't a game braking issue as I all have to do is wait a bit before starting. It's been this way since I got it, and has ~100 hours of operation time since then and hasn't gotten any worse.

I tried running through a supergun and a cab (which it came in), and see the same result. I've checked voltages as well.

So basically, is this anything to be worried about? Or is this "normal" for a Raiden 1 pcb?

Not normal. My copy boots up fine. Does the problem go away if you mount the pcb in the vertical position?

I've usually got it running in a vertical position.

Thank you though, that's good to know. Thankfully it goes away quickly so I'm not going to freak out about it. :)

If you power it off/on quickly does it boot clear? Sounds like you have a failing component or a dry joint which operates correctly when warmed up.

Gave that a try. Only got a tiny amount of sprite flicker after a quick off/on, which cleared up in a few seconds. So yeah you're probably right about that.
