Hostel was nice
Hostel was nice
Not as gory as I thought it would have been, but still sweet as fuck. And a whole shit-ton of titties.

Since Tarantino didn't direct it, probably not. A friend of mine told me that the first hour was nothing but breasts, and the last half hour was just flat out, shockingly gross.GaijinPunch wrote:So how gory is it? In other words, a top tier horror flick.
Mildly entertaining. It's really hard to nail a horror movie, at least for my taste.
Yeah, nothing is going on for the first two thirds of it, then people just die and it's funny for the last third. If that's your thing, definitely put up your $8.50. Me, I just went because all the friends wanted to go.

The gore was not as much as I had wanted, but then again I wanted an ungodly amount of blood everywhere. Some of the parts are very sick, but I only cringed at one (won't spoil it for you).GaijinPunch wrote:So how gory is it? I'm not really into hack 'n' slash movies...at all. It's an Eli Roth movie i.e. the guy who directed Cabin Fever. So yeah, a bunch of gay jokes and a bunch of boobs with some nasty stuff in-between. Personally I loved Cabin Fever, I thought it was just what the horror genre needed -- a reinvigorating movie with some good ideas.
Eli's also a big fan of Takashi Miike (he dressed as Kakihara from Ichi at a party, from what I've heard) and it shows. Think of something you can do to the body that's unquestionably grotesque and Eli will do it.
Hostel rocks, it's part of a genre that people either love or are really put off by it. I thought how the guy escaped and got his revenge was very satisfying.
Yeah, especially since Takashi Miike had a cameo in Hostel.LoneSage wrote:Eli's also a big fan of Takashi Miike (he dressed as Kakihara from Ichi at a party, from what I've heard) and it shows.
I finally watched this last night, and I thought it was a pretty decent flick. The blowtorch scene bothered me only cos I really felt sorry for that girl. That was just... awful.
The little bubblegum punks were funny, though.

I suspect that the Nick Berg video has permanently satisfied whatever part of me would want to see Hostel. Now, I wonder why I ever wanted to see such stuff to begin with. Morbid curiosity, yes, but I wondered if there were a depraved sadist running around my head somewhere. There probably is. Several social experiments seem to imply that many of us have one.
Mine can go piss up a rope; I wish I could throttle him to death. If I have any say in the matter (and it turns out that I do), all he'll ever get to do is make smart-ass comments.

Sorry but I thought hostel was a disgrace of a horror movie. With all the insane hype surrounding this film, I thought it might scare me enough to avoid visiting a hostel for weeks, I've seen thrillers with more scare than this! My friends thought it was a joke too, just a pointless excuse for a 45min gore-fest.
Shame too, the idea of the plot was potentially interesting, but they screwed it up and focused too much on the so-called "shock value".
I still need to see silent hill, hopefully it will be a good enough cure for this crap.

No, it was one the slovakian girls who said it was an art exhibition or something. Miike was the older asian guy who came out the building and said "be careful... you could spend all your money in there" =)LoneSage wrote:I heard about that a few days after I posted this. Anyways, I think cameos should never be revealed beforehand, like in this thread.. they should remain these WTF surprises for those who recognize them.
Anyway, I loved Hostel. It sweeped the floor with most of the 80'es slasher/gore/splatter flicks that tried to play with boobs and nasty gore. It was just so much better in both departments, and direction and script were very clever too. Eli Roth is one cool dude. Cabin Fever was excellent. Roth also has a cameo in one fresh horror movie, but I won't reveal which one

Before Pope John Paul died he decreed that Aliens were also GOD's creatures and we should treat them with respect.

Getting Sold to Torture Tourism
I'm going to Bratislava this weekend
No shit! I really am.
I'm attending a friend's Wedding in Bratislava on sunday.
I was sitting there in the cinema a few weeks ago, watching those American boys arrive in Bratislava, nudging my mate saying; "Oh Shit! I'm going there in a few weeks time!"

HOSTEL TERRITORY
I arrived in

Bratislavska Krutost translates as; 'Bratislavan Cruelty'
Zombies were roaming the desolate streets

The bubblegum kids infested the Bratislavan stations and the women....

I avoided the women of course, not wishing to be sold to Torture Tourism
and then I found it...

If you've seen the film you'll know what this is^
.I knew I should back away, but as LL says "Temptation is a Mother"
so I slipped into the Forbidden Zone

A dusty mist filled the air around the torture dungeon entrance, for a moment I thought I'd warped into Silent Hill, but the whine of buzz saws in the air re-assured me that I was still in Bratislava

The Security was tight (click pic^ for Full Horror!)
I moved back down to the Bratislavan Old Town where I caught some spooky images on the walls

Skuste Sa Neposvracat translates as; "Try not to Vomit"

I'll leave the final words to the locals

I bought Saw thinking that it was The Last Horror Pic Show
I bought the DVD version of Saw on the day it came out thinking that it was the film "The Last Horror Picture Show" film (an indie slight horror film shot on HD-video that was featured in Fangoria) and to my surprise, it was a very different film. Then a few months later, I headed down to my local Blockbuster and found a rental of the "The Last Horror Picture Show"...that indie horror film really does suck -- not much of plot or storyline. The movie of Saw was better than that piece of shit.GaijinPunch wrote:I still haven't worked up the balls to see this, and probably won't. I've not even seen Saw yet.
I still haven't seen some of the modern day horror genre movies that came out after Saw did:
High Tension
The Devil's Rejects
Saw 2
and
Hostel
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~
